So I’ve been looking for a new pen and I’ve layed my eyes on this model and now I want it. The problem is that I can’t find it in European stores. I know it’s a limited edition but recently I found it on jetpens, they did an edition for North America. On jetpens the pen costs 30 but with shipping and taxes it gets to 50€ so not really convenient.

Is there a cheaper way of ordering this pen? Could I order from an Asian shop?

Left field idea, order a regular white one and then see if you can badger Lamy into sending you a replacement red clip and cap plug? Those seem to be the only pieces that are actually red.

Failing that you could probably pull the plug and clip and dunk them in red Testor’s 1103TT or similar yourself.

Otherwise, you’ll probably just have to pay. I did some searching and didn’t find anywhere shipping this to Europe for a reasonable price. I did find one punter on eBay selling it for over $100, though, which is pretty rich. I even checked for knockoffs. As you probably know, Lamy Safari and Al-Star clones are basically given away free in boxes of cereal from China, but I could not find anyone hawking this particular colorway.

But while I was searching you also forced me to look at the Lamy Dialog again. Damn you.

If it works like that, maybe they can buy both a white and a red safari and swap the parts? It will cost a bit more than getting one shipped but at least they have two pens (maybe two different nibs to make it more interesting).

Yes. Although I have not seen any other models with a red painted/powdercoated clip, either. Usually they’re chromed.

You can push out the plug in the end of the cap with a suitable poking object. It has a flange on the inside end that plugs in to the rubber sealing doohickey inside the cap. Once that’s done you can slide the clip out. You have to rotate it to get the prongs through. Installation is the reverse of disassembly, although if I were you I’d put a drop of silicone on the end of the rubber seal to help get it back over the flange in the plug.

Honestly that’s as cheap as you’re likely going to get it. Other shops are probably going to have just as, if not more, expensive shipping. Jetpens is great though, I’ve gotten loads of pens from them over the years and they’re extremely reliable

You can also try Canadian retailers? I just checked my local store, Wonder Pen. They have it for about 24 euros. I am not certain how much shipping will be, but it could be a cheaper option than Jet Pens.

I think I’ve looked at them and they don’t ship to Europe

Ended up ordering some stuff from my brother too since they aren’t available here so we split the shipping and tax
