Wikipedia is more accurate “convicted serial child molester”. Why does the media downplay his crimes?

I never heard of him before and thought he was involved with some doping scandal or whatever. Who wrote that headline? Disgusting!

Disgraced is appropriate, as he used to be held in high regard as a doctor, but no longer is. The extent of that disgrace and the reason for it doesn’t change how appropriate the word is to use.

Agreed, it’s an appropriate headline. The lede clarifies why he’s disgraced.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Disgraced sports doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing female gymnasts including Olympic medalists, was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with another inmate at a federal prison in Florida.

Yeah, I’d never heard of him and read the title and was like “That seems like a bit much.” Then I started reading what happened and wow, that title doesn’t even come close to how much of a piece of shit he was.

I don’t defend child molesters, but it’s terrible that prison violence is tolerated in the US.

Prison authorities definitely try to prevent it, if for no other reason than it makes conditions dangerous for them too. It’s terrible that it’s celebrated in popular culture though for sure.

Most of the time I would agree. On the other hand, a serial child molester is not someone that is likely ever going to be able to change, even if they’re given every opportunity through rehabilitation (which US prisons do not do in the first place), so I have a hard time feeling bad for him in particular.

Link didn’t say whether the shiv can expect to make a full recovery.

Hopefully the shiv’s family will put up a gofundme so we can help with any hardships during this difficult time.

Someone is getting extra credits at the commissary once they’re out of the hole.
