According to a tweet from Flightradar24, approximately one hour into the flight, the aircraft was in cruise flight at 29,100 feet when it abruptly lost altitude, entering a steep descent. The aircraft appeared to recover briefly at approximately 8,000 feet, then it reentered dive.

Some sources claim the sudden nose-dive was intentional because of manual crew input, but to me it sounds like the crew reacted to something extremely strange happening and tried to correct it (“let’s click the AUTO button and get some rest. Oh shit.”), especially since the aircraft “appeared to recover briefly at approx. 8,000 feet”. Sounds a lot like all the other Boeing 737-x crashes where the pilots were surprised by the sudden nosedive, wrestled manual control back, only for the systems to kick in again into a dive.

I post this not as news, but as a point of interest for me personally.

Are you suggesting that this plane crashed for the same reason the two 737 max planes crashed?

That is not possible the 737NG planes (600,700,800,900) did not have that system. The system in question was the MCAS (maneuvering characteristics augmentation system) which was designed to make the flight characteristics of the Boeing 737 Max planes the same as the 737NG planes.

Please consider deleting or at least rewording your post. Whether intended or not this could easily be construed as misinformation.

That is my personal suspicion. I find too many characteristics similar with the other crashes to simply dismiss.

Anything could be construed as misinformation, but we know for sure that Boeing are guilty of it, on record, causing the deaths for hundreds of people, so it’s hardly a stretch to suspect this might have been MCAS related too.

This goes back many, many years now, it’s great that Oliver did a segment on it due to the many recent incidents, but for those of us who have followed the story from the start know that it was always just the tip of the iceberg and that a day of reckoning would come for Boeing.

No it is a complete stretch to say that the MCAS had anything to do with this crash. That plane did not have a MCAS, it would be impossible for it to cause the crash.

The only similarity between the crash of China Eastern Airlines Flight 5735 and the crashes of Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 were they all were made by Boeing that is it. They were completely different generations of 737. They had different wings, engines, and flight control systems. The 737-800 was engineered in the early 1990s before Boeing bought McDonald Douglas (whose corporate culture changed boeing).

The China Eastern crash didn’t even have the same flight profile as the two others before crashing. The fight data recorder recorded a manual input on the flight controls giving a pitch down command. Meaning someone intentionally pushed the yoke forward and put the plane into a dive. Both crashes of the MAX planes were extended affairs where the pilots actively tried to keep level and stable flight.

And no not anything could be viewed as misinformation. That is called the destruction of truth. That is how we hear people talking about “alternative facts” and other shit like that. John Oliver talks about this in one of his segments. If anything could be true then nothing is true. Which is the goal of people looking to bring down democracy.

Ok, so several Boeing 737 types crash straight into the ground, but this particular one crashed straight into the ground for completely unrelated reasons to the other ones?

          I see.

And these planes, they never had upgrades? Nothing new installed? Just out of the blue, literally just started falling out of the sky?

You know what bothers me? That year after year apologists like yourself blamed everything but Boeing’s design.

It’s like “ok we caught the serial killer”, “oh great, maybe those other deaths were also him, because it’s all the same characteristics and exact MO as the others, and he was the only survivor on the scene!”

“DONT BE RETARDED THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE, HOW DUMB ARE YOU TO SUSPECT HIM OF MURDERING THOSE POOR FOLK?! FOR SHAME!”

Yes it crashed for completely unrelated reasons because it was a completely different plane.

If you had any idea how airplane engineering, and airworthiness certifications occurred you wouldn’t even ask those questions. All they do is betray your ignorance of the situation. What part of MCAS and not being installed on that plane, never being installed on that plane, and being impossible to install on that plane is unclear?

You are literally making shit up and looking stupid doing it.

Yeah I know. This is their own community where they are the only mod. I am assuming because they have lots of bans. I am a little surprised they haven’t banned me yet. I’m mostly replying to them in hopes other people won’t get sucked in.

Do I try to explain accidents per departure? It seems not worth my time.

You who are so wise to the hustle of aeronautics, what was the official reason for that crash? Was it suicide?

“China Eastern plane crash likely intentional, US Reports say” https://www.bbc.com/news/business-61488976

“The cause of the crash has not yet been determined but on Sunday recovery teams found the plane’s second so-called “black box,” according to state media outlet Xinhua” https://edition.cnn.com/2022/03/26/china/china-eastern-airlines-crash-intl/index.html

"The Chinese embassy in Washington, the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and plane maker Boeing declined to comment on the Wall Street Journal’s report, due to guidelines set out by the United Nations’ International Civil Aviation Organization.

“Under the rules regarding crash investigations… only the investigating agency can comment on an open air accident investigation,” a Boeing spokesperson told the BBC on Wednesday. The company previously said it was assisting investigations in China and communicating with the NTSB."

Well that explains that! No further questions your honor!

Hey, what about Malaysia Airlines Flight 370? Was that a suicide too?

              “100% certainty MH370 crash was a murder-suicide” https://www.cbc.ca/news/mh370-flight-malaysian-airlines-crash-1.4665938

Huh! Whadda ya know! Maybe we shouldn’t be looking into Boeing, we should be looking into mental health issues- the number one cause of gun related violence, and now also plane crashes!

How fucking dumb have you got to be…

Edit: “😠 no I will not argue I will smugly downvote and jerk off this fucker next to me”

This sounds like that system John Oliver was talking about. Boeing put it on planes and it was supposed to correct some sort of imbalance and it’s got like a hair trigger and Boeing didn’t train pilots or even tell them that it was on the planes. M something. MCAT? MCAS?

MCAS was invented specifically for the 737 MAX 8 and 9. It’s not present on the 800.

After reading all the Admiral Cloudberg articles and watching all the videos on the Mentour Pilot youtube channel, I can fairly confidently say that there are a huge number of potential causes for a sudden loss of altitude, most of them initiated by human failure.

It’s funny. Most of the time if someone said “watching this YouTube channel has made me very confident in my opinion” my Dunning-Kruger detectors would be in high alert. But Cloudberg and Mentour are just so very good and taking complex, highly technical systems and breaking them down in a way that makes sense to someone with little to no knowledge of airplanes.

Kyra and Petter are both amazing
