I’m not challenging the rule or anything, it just seems a little out of place here. Potential legal repercussions for our server’s owner maybe?

I’m sorry for late answer. I kinda disappeared after a hurray moment. I’m more active on my alt account, but I will take this a bit more seriously now.

    To answer the question:

    • sourcing discussion is location specific - vendors in EU are of no interest for people outside of EU and it’s just useless posts
    • sourcing is necessarily full of shilling, repetitive posts, hate posts. Just general low quality.

I just created https://lemmy.world/c/kratomeu for sourcing discussions in the EU. The idea is that the “kratom” community will be rather general topics and therefore higher quality, while kratomeu will be for inherently lower quality (but perhaps still useful) discussion on the sourcing within EU. I encourage somebody to create communities for sourcing within USA and elsewhere …

Yeah really stupid rule. /r/kratom was a better place when vendors could advertise on there and people could review them. You were able to find good quality kratom because people could say “this company is trash” or "this company is good "

The only reason they changed it is because reddit revamped a lot of rules and lots of subs went out the window. For example /r/steroidsourcetalk had to shut down. /r/ketamine, /r/fakeids, etc

Any idea how to fix this? The stuff I’ve been getting in the EU has been mostly garbage for a couple of years

@RecursiveParadox I can’t speak for @foof. I started a kratom community on kbin.social. I also decided not to allow sourcing. The reason is that I am not interested in running a marketplace. I don’t want a bunch of spam. I think there is a lot of other stuff to discuss.

It would be great to have a separate place for vendors to advertise, people to post reviews and so on. Hoping someone will take that on who wants to have it happen!

I’d be open to hosting one on my box as long as there wasn’t any marketplace/selling directly on the site cause of legal crap. I know people who’ve been helped by Kratom and it’s not illegal in my area, so I’d be open to chat.

Yes now that people have brought up that point it totally makes sense.

And I agree we could use a kind of “Without Prejudice” / Caveat Emptor kind of place somewhere.

      What’s the address of yours?

The one I started is https://kbin.social/m/kratom

I can’t really find anyone on fediverse actively discussing kratom. It seems slow going for all the communities regardless of rules.

I would like a place to discuss vendors… but I do not know how all these fediverse admins will react to this. I would be interested to observe other situations to see what happens. For now it’s all pretty freewheeling but I don’t think that’s gonna last. Since kratom in general is so low-interest I don’t think we’re gonna be the ones to test it.

I’ll challenge the rule. If an admin won’t respond to this with a reasonable defense as to why sourcing is banned then I say do it.

Yeah the admin said so in their sidebar. Their server/their rules.

Because these are opioid substances that you consume by the gram? These are not some mechanical keyboard parts.

Also vote manipulation, brigading, multiple accounts and exploits have a pretty low bar of entry currently.

That’s a terrible argument for not allowing sourcing, it’s defending no rational reasoning for it whatsoever…

I can test say LSD analogs with a pretty well distributed array of reagent kits. Same might go for a number of synthetic substances that you usually order on nootropic or research chem sites.

On the other hand, you cant simply do the same for a plant choke full of different alkaloids.

If this, and the fact that you can vote manipulate, is not an issue, feel free to nessage anyone for private suggestions on kratom vendors since you are getting roughly the same reliability.

Also, just fucking do a kratom sub on a federated instance. I would gladly watch how long it lasts.

Is it just me or is half the stuff your typing gibberish? Like, for real, the first 2 paragraphs you wrote have nothing to do with anything we are talking about?

LSD? Reagent kits? Synthetic substance abuse? Noorotropic? None of those has anything to do with kratom or vendors…

Vote manipulation is an issue with sourcing how exactly? You think somebody is going to use bots to upvote a source in posts or comments? If the kratom sucks somebody will chime in…

I have no idea what 75% of what you are typing has to do with sourcing either way.

And why would I make another kratom sub when this already exists albeit with a bad rule against sourcing?

So because I use analogies about sourcing using substance related subreddits, Im talking gibberish? Have a nice day buddy.

Well the types of site abuse you mention is true for the vast majority of new instances.

And I think anyone who comes to this instance has a pretty good idea what kratom is. So, since the fediverse does not have the kind of look pretty for corporate investors demand, I was just curious why the owner of this server had banned vendor talk.

Well, other than an array of possible pitfalls like the ones I answered for the other user, it might simply be easier to moderate for the current mod.

He does not want to spend time deciding whether a vendor is a scam or reliable, whether it is genuine review or not.

Not being able to tell if a vendor is reliable or a review a scam it a good point.
