Man, it’s the attack of the tear-offs at the Australian GP. First Ocon now Perez.

I did think Crofty’s solution to just stick them to their Nomex suits was pretty hilarious

they need to start lebelling the tear offs with drivers’ names and give penalties if they end up in another car. stuff it in your cockpit to avoid penalties.

I remember some years back (maybe 2014?) there was talk of doing exactly this, forcing drivers to keep tear offs in the cabin. I think it was ultimately rejected due to fire concerns, if the car goes up in flames these pieces melt, can stick to suits and cause a concentrated burn, becoming a threat to the driver. Nothing came of it except asking drivers to tear off less often

To me that seems far more dangerous than risking a small plastic film possibly getting on a flame-retardant suit when it melts lol

They also said Max got his brake stuck from the beginning of the race… but I have a hard time buying that, how could the brake be stuck and NOT even smoking for 3 laps?

Ah… Key word I missed… Makes more sense

but how didn’t they see the overheating in the telemetry? I watched Max’ onboard from start to retirement and there was nothing on the team radio until Max mentioned the smoke. Heck, there was even a significant time when everyone could see the smoke on tv, yet nobody got the idea of telling Max?

all good questions. race starts are chaotic, maybe their attention was elsewhere. whatever it is, probably something they need to correct.
