Just to add a little context, bird legs have a structure that is a little deceptive to us. They have mostly the same bones as we do, but they are proportionately very different.

Check out this mildly disturbing comparison:

What we think of as the bird’s calf is what to us would be our ankle. I don’t think many of us have buff ankles, they’re pretty much just bones. If anything, the bird’s is superior as it’s fused into one solid bone instead of some loosely tied together bits, but we do use them for tasks very different to what a bird needs.

Bird thighs, to anyone who’s ever had chicken can attest, are even meatier than the drumstick, which is the better comparison to our calves.

This is a Boreal Owl leg diagram, showing a nice thick thigh as one would expect.

Bird muscles also work a bit different than ours as far as push/pull, so that accounts for some differences as well.

This is both fascinating and utterly disturbing. Thank you

The disturbing part helps you remember it! 😬

Do you know how to use the crosspost feature?
You just click on this button:

And you’ll find yourself on a page to post the same content as the original one.

Then choose the community you want to post on and publish.

This way, one can access both the new and the old post from their instance and easily write comments in both space.

And thank you for sharing (^_^)

There’s the share option, but that’s the one I used for this less than ideal result…

There’s a cross posting option below that.
