Sorry I don’t really have any more detail. I read this blurb about a book on either reddit or goodreads. Something about humanity discovering interstellar travel or something major like that and aliens sending a message warning humanity to stop, or else. At least that’s what I remember. Any help would be appreciated. Been searching for a couple of hours and have had no luck.
Sounds a bit like Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu. Though the aliens there take an active role in hindering humanity’s ability to develop technology.
Yeah that is my first thought. I think it is really explored in the Dark Forest?
I am sure there are other examples though.
Can’t remember large parts of the story but reminds me a bit of Childhood’s End by Arthur C Clarke
More of a short story than a book, but it could be “The Martyr” by Poul Anderson
I think there was something along those lines in this PBS Space time video. Maybe they mention the book or it’s mentioned in the comments.
