Just thinking when the new Generator Jam will be released and how people will react to the current buttons event that is still going on (as of this post).

Now, someone might visit the hub or the generators page (because of the card) and going to say, “where’s the neww jammm??!?!?” (but that’s my own speculations). But in reality, I actually don’t care if the new Generator Jam releases on the 1st day, or even on April 6th and so forth, because I believe there’s no need to rush in order to release something new, just keep in their own paces. (note to myself)

What do you all think? And what’s your current proposed theme for the new Jam?

Ok here are some thoughts on the Jam, and then i will go code and then come back much later and correct all my suggestions and ponderings.

First is ‘what is the purpose’? When I first got into the codings of perchance it was during a time the generator jam was not up, so i was momentarily like ‘awww’ because i wanted to hop in to what i thought was ‘the big communal area’ of perchance creation and make some comparable stuff with others. So there IS a point in your second paragraph and there may be people, a very little minority, who do not jump in to perchance because the jam is down when it is the time they would.

Also it should be somewhere everyone feels welcome and no one feels ‘theirs is worse’. I like the idea of not displaying views of each generator on the ‘jam generators’ list. When I submitted Love and Light I watched the view count go up higher than someone else’s generator that they had worked on and submitted and it was visible on the hub page where it showed them. It is the only month I was attentive to that and after the brief 0.001 seconds of ‘wow im cool’, that immediately triggered thoughts of how that isn’t at all what we want in a generator jam. Everyone that submits is equally cool and there should be no view counter promoting any one over another. Not in the jam at least imo. We want as many people, of all walks of life and experience levels, entering and growing in doing so.

If we do arcade, im ready to get back in to glitch for a second swingthru and make a shareable leaderboard plugin. And that brings us to another topic which is really the first topic: purpose. Making something on a topic is a reason for someone to make something slightly otherwise out of their way and learn something otherwise slightly out of their way. The more people jamming, the more people healthily growing, creating, and the healthier Perchance is. I automatically feel ‘things should not end’ and even in our forum contest here it’s hard to not constantly want to have further paths for all the great submissions, like make a wallpaper app of them with a buyable form that splits income back equally to all submissioners, stuff like that. I do resist going too fast too far don’t worry, but i do think these things. Jam is the same. I only justify making something for it when it is something i will continue to grow for who knows how long and has some future beyond the jam. I could not make a thing for the jam and then be like ‘ok done’ and never touch it again. I think for many it seems like there is no permanent gain to doing the Jam; not for them and nor are they contributing to something.

Rewards? Look in the contest here to see how the Monolith person deleted their entry and unsubscribed because their’s seemed to not get as positive feedback. I agree with something VioneT first said about not doing judging. It would be great to have more incentives somehow, but we do not want there to be gaps in people being ‘worse or better’ than each other. That can have a ‘pushing down’ effect and we want everyone rising. Should anything be extravalued? I find I get most upvotes when I make something others can use. That seems to be the natural ‘top vote getter’ in the main perchance forum. But I believe there should be no extra positive feedback for that in Jam. Not everyone can yet make things others can use, and they should feel no worse for not being able to. If anything, the one thing that should be encouraged is, no matter where one is right now, that they make something and, they specifically, grow as a person from doing so.

Anyway, that’s my typing on Jam right now and may come back later with ideas maybe even of how to improve things! :)

Woah, that’s a good story about Perchance journey and all of that.

Actually, I am going with a theme other than arcade, such as landscapes, skies, or text manipulation (which might be related to the mad science jam), but decision is decision and one of them will be counted as an actual Jam. I also might propose even newer, different ideas for the next month.

I’d also plan to implement a kind of similar thing on my Generator Manager but poured into the Events feature (and it’s going on preview right now), in this case, generator submissions. The event will be a type of Generator Jam every few months (so it won’t be as common as the Generator Jam) and not only that, but there’ll be also various non-jam-like events such as the Silent Day, the 2 Years Journey (2 years of making generators), and many more that signs the celebration of something I want to celebrate.

Also, I’ll going to probably set a rule that the generator must be a fresh, new save, in order to be qualified as “submitted generators” - so that the view counters reset to maybe a few views and not like 450 views when it was submitted. If set to private, you can make a duplicate, rename the URL if you want to, and make it public! And then delete the old one.

In addition, there are also In-Event Generators, which is like a set of generators pre-submitted by me (or someone else if through collab) within the event.

The purpose of the Generator Jam (or Community Events) mostly serves as a ‘prompt’ or an ‘idea’ for the users/community to try and make something that is related to the theme/prompt.

I know it seems hard to think about what to do depending on the theme, but if you have an idea and want to do it but don’t know how, feel free to ask on the Collab Chat, which is why it is there, to ask for help or get opinion/feedback on your ideas. There is also the Learn Tab where you can ask for help and read some articles to learn more about the Syntaxes.

I also recommend that if you made something, post it/share it, do not be discouraged about how unfinished it is, how bad it is, or how silly it is. If you are looking to learn, then you need feedback and someone to point you in the right direction. Some people may give negative comments, but that as well is feedback.

It is also pretty hard to think up some themes/prompts for the Jams (or Events) so any feedback from the participants is highly appreciated. Again, without feedback, it wouldn’t get better XD.

You have a great explanation on the Generator Jam, and also some golden tips. I appreciate it 👍

Also, please let me know if there’s already a new Generator Jam in the Hub! 😁

The Gen Jam theme might be Arcade or just ‘Fun and Games’. I’ll probably update the hub designs by tomorrow.

I might also just remove the ‘Forms’ tab and make it an ‘Events’ tab. Then just place the ‘Forms’ that are needed in their respective tabs i.e. Gen Submissions for the Gens Tab is at the Gens Tab, then Gen Submissions for the Events are in the Events tab (as well as the feedback form).

The ‘Events’ tab will probably be an ‘iframe’ with a separate Hub page, so we can modularize the sheets (and anyone can add an event? maybe), I like the way you have the events, might be a similar one there (I could also probably create a poll there via Glitch if maybe needed for voting and such).

I’m just throwing ideas for the events in Hub, and how it is handled for the future ones.

i like Fun and Games because it’s more widely inclusive.

and the forms idea sounds more streamlined

Yeah, I also agree with that. And it’s becoming a Jam already.

And I decided to bring the statistics in the About page in my next Generator Manager update 🙂

i was looking at one of our fastest growing generators lastnight, OI Jokers, which seems to be building a nice community within it, and they do an event every week. I could see them posting their event if you open eventposting to the public comfortably enough. I probably would also do an event. and the image contest here is one. and i bet many Perchance creators of RP pages would jump on the idea of a dedicated place for their events to be known. sounds like a great idea now that you mention it, and one that helps build Perchance’s community interconnection up a step

Bumping up again this discussion, I was thinking of having the Events posted here (by anyone who wants to create an event) and then mirroring it to the Events tab.

The post would be templated so I can neatly parse it on the page.

Having the Events posted here can have the organizer constantly update their event without the Hub manager updating directly on the hub. Plus the organizer/poster of the event can moderate and run their own event, but it’s just mirrored on the Perchance Hub.

Looking for your thoughts with this.
