    I think that if the tickets aren’t for a single shared prize then buying identical tickets technically has the same (low) rate of return as buying different tickets…

      Compared with buying two different tickets, you cut your chance of winning in half but double your potential payout for winning (leading to the same expected return).

    I always buy two tickets with the same numbers. This way if someone else also wins, they only get 1/3 of the jackpot instead of 1/2.

      Isn’t this paying 100% more for only 33% more winnings (if someone else has your numbers at all)
