I am having another split base version of one of my standards:

1 oz cognac

1 oz bourbon

1 oz Heirloom Pineapple Amaro

1 oz Giffard Abricot

1.5 oz fresh lemon juice

Shake shake shake and strain over ice.

Not a cocktail, drinking beer. It’s an imperial IPA. I generally don’t like imperial IPAs but it was on sale, 12 for $12.99. I was planning to get a 6 pack of something lighter but they got me with the sale.

Been meaning to get into cocktails more but I’m diabetic so that kinda limits my options. Big fan of mules though and they seem to have relatively low amounts of sugar.

I don’t know how alcohol affects diabetes. But fermentation and distillation kinda eat up the sugar in drinks. The Texas drink that is a shot of tequila and squeeze of lime in a Topo Chico is better than it sounds, and very low in sugar.

And yeah, it’s a funny hobby because you really do have to move slowly, I don’t drink every day and usually only one on days I do but like it to be delicious and like to vicariously indulge by seeing what other people are enjoying.

That sounds good, lime juice is pretty low in sugar. Whiskey or bourbon and diet coke is my go-to mixed drink.

    Part-Time Lover

    • 1.5 oz silver tequila
    • .75 oz lemon juice
    • 0.5 oz St Germain
    • 0.5 oz Campari (I didn’t have Aperol)

Shaken with ice, strained into ice-filled lowball with some lemon peel.

Very easy to make and pretty refreshing, and the Campari isn’t too overbearing. I’ll have to grab some Aperol for next time, though.
