I think he did once call him selfish to his face, but the exact moment eludes me.

I’ll have to get back when it comes to me. I think it might have been during their conversation about Jadzia while Julian was learning how to play Tongo in the O’Brien’s quarters.

Edit: nope, it was when Miles was telling him to ignore Sloan who was trying to tempt him with extra dirt while they were mind-raping him, and his brain was dying. Miles told him he was being selfish for trying to stay back and collect more data rather than just leaving with the info to save Odo.

Edit 2: it’s possible he also called him selfish that time he was trying to cure that group of Jen Ha’dar of their ketracel white addiction, as Miles believed it was only for his own edification and hindered their escape attempts while also being possibly treason.

By the time of Sloan, I’d say they were close enough to call Bashir out on it. So long as we’re in agreement that Bashir is the Cher to O’Brien’s Di.

Certainly, but, also, that Jem Ha’dar incident happened back when they were still in the period when O’Brien really didn’t like Bashir, would snidely call him “sir,” and sometimes had to call out his inexperience and youth - even as his subordinate - and remind him that he had 15 years’ Starfleet experience on him by subtlety blowing up his lab.

Edit: funny, I think that meme is screenshotted from the exact episode I’m referring to, lol

Bashir had a lot of trouble reading the room early on. It’s mostly thanks to O’Brien that he became more personable and socially adept. Also, you don’t fuck with the war vet who knows how to break down your molecules six ways til sundown.

Im sure that also has something to do with Bashir becoming a war vet himself. The man saw some shit.

Bashir was a character who had a tremendous amount of growth over the series. Garak, in fact, remarked about it in DS9 S06E01 - ”A Time to Stand”:

GARAK: Well look at you. You act as if you haven’t a care in the world. It’s exactly that kind of smug, superior attitude that makes people like you so unpopular.
BASHIR: Are you trying to insulting me?
GARAK: A thirty two point seven percent chance of survival. I call that insulting.
BASHIR: Don’t take it so personally, Garak. It’s strictly a matter of mathematics.
GARAK: No, it’s strictly a matter of our lives. You’re not genetically engineered. You’re a Vulcan.
BASHIR: If I’m a Vulcan, then how do you explain my boyish smile?
GARAK: Not so boyish anymore, Doctor.

Ah, yes. That’s the beginning of season 6, with the 6 episode sequence to retake the station from the Dominion. Great stuff.

Yeah, it was in the middle of that whole period when we had those gigantic Dominion War story arcs. That was definitely the best of DS9.

                Great stuff.

Ok, Bashir is Cher. But O’Brien is Princess Di?

Dionne from Clueless, who Cher would call Di.
