And don’t forget that we’re in the middle of getting a new Cold War going, what with Russia and China’s strategic plans for the near to mid-term future conflicting with what pretty much everyone else in the world is planning.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

As Gaza’s death toll climbs and famine looms, criticism of Israel’s conduct of the war has been growing from the left and even the centre, with some calling for an end to US arms supplies.

This pressure, and the recent deaths of World Central Kitchen aid workers in Gaza, seemed to finally prompt a shift in Biden’s tone.

The Democratic senator John Fetterman, no friend of pro-Palestinian protesters, told CNN’s State of the Union: “It really demonstrates how it’s astonishing that we are not standing firmly with Israel and there should never be any kinds of conditions on all of that.

Amid the drumbeat for rallying against a common foe, Democrats who call for military aid to be conditioned will be accused of tone deaf appeasement.

On Sunday, the Washington news agenda was dominated by speculation over Biden can dissuade Netanyahu from striking back – “Take the win,” he reportedly said – and prevent a wider regional war, and whether Congress might now pass military aid for both Israel and Ukraine.

Gaza – where Israel’s offensive has killed at least 33,729 people, mostly women and children, according to the territory’s Hamas-run health ministry – was no longer uppermost in the thoughts of politicians or the journalists who interview them.

The original article contains 744 words, the summary contains 209 words. Saved 72%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!

If Biden starts a war with Iran, he needs to drop out of the race. He won’t possibly be able to win.

The options for Dems will be to find another candidate or throw their support behind Bobby Kennedy. Otherwise, it’s Trump.

Nahh, I would say 90% of us here will be voting for Biden.

Will some be stupid enough to vote for a Bobby Kennedy? Maybe? But I suspect a vast minority.

Again, IF Biden starts a war with Iran. That makes him unelectable. Name a Democrat who can beat Trump.

        Otherwise, it’s Kennedy or Trump.

Same here, but if he does start a war he’s going to lose a lot of swing voters. A year ago I wouldn’t have thought trump would pose a significant threat in the election, but holy fuck biden is absolutely dropping the ball on Israel. This is his covid.

Hear, hear! If even just so we can have a backup candidate in case he drops dead of old age at the last minute.

Fuck being polite about this. HE chose to run in his 80’s. We should be allowed to talk openly as a nation about a backup plan because he is at the end of his expected life span. Otherwise we are going to let another octogenarian fuck us over the way RBG did.

You think the conservatives won’t start a war with Iran?

That makes both side “unelectable”. So you scratch that off for both sides and keep looking for other differences. Like separation of church and state and reproductive rights.

You think the conservatives won’t start a war with Iran?

            No one said they wouldn’t.

Biden will lose enough votes to lose the election if he starts a war with Iran. No one here said they would be voting for Trump, just that Biden would lose votes.

When you don’t vote, you essentially give your vote to the person you want the least; that’s fundamental to FPTP. It doesn’t matter if you don’t directly vote for Trump in the current political system, what matters is you didn’t vote for Biden.

You can try to change the voting system, but while you’re in it this is the way to play. Vote Biden in and protest the shit out of his day to day.

And I didn’t say I’m not voting. I’m voting for Biden.

I said Biden will lose votes if he starts a war with Iran. I did not say “Gee, I want another smug centrist to ignore what I’m saying and lecture me about shit I already know!”

                Centrists don’t listen.

Why would I want Biden to start a war with Iran? Israel is about to ramp things up and his support is ironclad. The US joining an Israeli war against Iran is a legitimate concern.

Where are you getting reports that Israel is ramping up for direct war with Iran?

Everything I have read has said neither side is approaching further escalation at this time. Perhaps you have intel that hasn’t made its way to open source yet?

I mean, except Iran… and Israel (and by proxy through Israel the US).

Wars not just on the table, if it goes that way, the first strike will have been conducted by Israel (with US backing).

Other countries aren’t delusional about the US’s relationship with Israel the way Biden apologists seem to be.

So you think Iran and Israel are going to draw Biden into a war so that he loses the election, and the left should react to this by… Voting for Kennedy?

It is sad that a lot of leftists here sound indistinguishable from Steve Bannon in their geopolitical goals.

I’d like to vote Bernie in the general. I’d like it better about 8 years ago.

He’s 8 years older than he was then. I think that’s part of why he doesn’t run. He wants the younger generation to take it up.

I really hope they do. The current set of democrats risk allowing the Republicans to get a solid foothold across demos that, normally, wouldn’t be as split.
