    First off, the Russian war effort is a meat grinder, no one who signs up should expect to live long, or get care for any injuries they might suffer. That said, wouldn’t you imagine that since this Russian recruiting drive seems to have been going on for at least a year, with promised cash payments upfront, and (comparatively) large ongoing monthly salaries, whether or not these payment are actually being made.

      If they are dead, you don’t have to pay anymore. And (like the image says) they are not experienced, so perfect for the front line where the most meat gets ground. Combined, these two facts make for a huge saving on the promised payments.
