  • I think that’s part of the plan too.
But maybe Germany want their own army strong, because they doubt the military capabilities of the other EU countries.
To be fair that would be quite justified from what we have learned from history.
If an EU army is to be any good, a strong German army in the center of it is very helpful.
In the same way that a strong American Army was the center and commander of NATO forces.

  • No it’s not, the Democrats fucked themselves by not opposing Biden because it’s tradition not to.
As long as Democrats don’t improve their own democratic process, they will keep fucking themselves.
If Harris had been the candidate from the start, she might have had a better chance.
Biden being obliged when he broke his promise to not run again, was absolutely a mistake by the Democratic party.
Biden probably thought he had to save America again, and nobody told him no before it was too late.

  • I’m not saying you are wrong in anything you state, and you make good points.
And yes you are probably right that the shortcomings compared to what was promised is the main reason sales didn’t go as expected.
But I think you don’t see it the same way as barneypiccolo you responded to.
Wasn’t the DeLorean design pretty iconic from the beginning? The fact that there are still more than 2/3rds of the cars built on the road today 44 years later does speak volumes to its favor regarding popularity IMO. Those were not cars that were bought, found insufficient and then scrapped. But instead have been maintained despite DeLorean hasn’t been around to supply spare parts.
Also the fact that the car had such a central role in the Movie Back to the Future, because it was simply such a cool car despite it’s flaws, what other car could they have used for similar effect?
Imagine trying to do that with the Cybertruck! The Cinema would most like burst out in laughter from claiming doing anything with a Cybertruck would be to do it in “Style” as Emmet Brown expressed it regarding the DeLrean. It would clearly be seen as a fat joke on how stupid the car is and looks.
So no the car wasn’t popular enough in sales for the number of cars DeLorean built, but it was never an unpopular atrocity like the Cybertruck is.

    Edit PS:

they had produced 7,000 units and sold 3,000

    That’s not true:
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DMC_DeLorean

total production reached an estimated 9,000 units

And allegedly they needed to sell about 2000 cars remaining to continue.

  • Brexit was bad, but hopefully we can still work closely together. UK is still finding their footing after Brexit.
USA is a different more fundamental break of trust, which I would hate to see repeated with UK.
In most EU countries USA is now more unpopular than China!

UK is on a route where they are balancing EU and USA against each other, while completely forgetting that it was not EU that wanted the break, and EU is still their friend, and USA is not. just look how USA is treating Canada! It’s insane that UK is looking towards USA considering how unfriendly USA has become even to their closest ally!

    https://www.diis.dk/en/research/the-predicament-of-mozambiques-police-force

    https://avisendanmark.dk/kultur/million-projekt-paa-vestkysten-blev-en-af-danmarks-stoerste-kunstskandaler-nu-er-elle-mie-tilbage-paa-stedet-der-smadrede-hendes-karriere

  • As a European, looking at that map is really really REALLY depressing!!
I’m a bit surprised to see China is more popular than USA in so many European countries including my own.
I don’t think that’s really the case if people thought more about it, it’s the immediate reaction of feeling betrayed by a friend and ally.
But if USA continue their current hostile policies against Europe and the world, and continue on their path towards fascism, of course China can be seen as the lesser evil.
One thing is for sure, the old relationship with USA is ruined, and there is very little chance EU will go back to be as pro American as we used to be.
This is a HUGE loss on both sides, we should have stood together to protect democracy, and to balance out China, that will soon be a global economic force never before seen.
But Instead USA chose to attack every ally they have, and alienate them beyond repair. Hopefully China will be a graceful superpower, when there is nobody to counter them.
USA needs to turn around super fast, and make it clear that the MAGA crowd is out politically for good.
Because democracies like USA and Europe and other allies need to strengthen alliances rather than weakening them. And we need to stand more for the values of democracy instead of breaking them down.
If we don’t, China and BRICS will dictate the terms in the future, and the world will devolve into an authoritarian hell.

  • WTF? Even our government (Denmark) foreign minister is alarmed by what Israel is doing in Gaza, and he is traditionally very pro Israel!

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaza_genocide

According to a United Nations Special Committee,[37] Amnesty International, and other experts and human rights organisations, Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people

This is so widely reported and acknowledged the only way to ignore it is extreme bias or more likely corruption.

It is also absolutely clear that Israel is committing war crimes regularly, there is zero doubt t about it, and the political leadership in Israel is wanted criminals because of it.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Criminal_Court_arrest_warrants_for_Israeli_leaders

On 21 November 2024, following an investigation of war crimes and crimes against humanity, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for two senior Israeli officials, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, and Yoav Gallant, the former Minister of Defense of Israel,

Please UK, don’t go as corrupt malignant and stupid on us as USA. 🙏

    https://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korruption
