Biden has gotten played for a fool for months. If you have no red lines and the party you’re negotiating realizes that, they’ve got you by the balls and they’re going to do whatever the hell they want until the day of final judgement.

I knew the israeli butchers were going to go into Rafah no matter what, but it makes me extra sick that they’re dressing it up by pretending it’s balanced out by not attacking Iran (after attacking their embassy in the first place).

I don’t think the Israelis consider them to be separate matters.

Avoiding the hot war with Iran in exchange for something Israel was going to do anyway, was the US’s position. I guess we will see how many lives it would have saved since Israel is bombing right again right now.

      I say hundreds of thousands.

A senior official told The New Arab that “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu managed to obtain American approval for a military operation in Rafah, in exchange for [Israel] refraining from carrying out a wide military operation against Iran in response to its recent attack.”

This is insane, goes to show how much power the US has over Israeli military operations. US approval for genocide, what a strong finger wag.

Israel’s continued existanse is linked mainly to American backing. They are by most definitions a vassal state. We could easily exert control over thir actions by withholding financial and military aid, but the government simply refuses to hold them to the same standards as most other countries.

I just don’t see it that way. I suppose long-term it trends that way but in the short term, it’s a very well armed vassal state with a form of government and civilian populatiom worth preserving.

To me it’s like this: Israel has all the ordinance and warheads it would need to turn the Middle East into smoldering ruin from Tehran to Cairo. That’s a vassal state that is more dangerous to humanity if the reigns of American (and international) support are removed. If Israel and Iran know the US won’t back up Israel, then it stops being a vassalary war and starts being a hot, open war. I don’t know how many deaths it would take to convince me an unprotected Israel is safer for humanity than the current one but it’s a hell of a lot more than low-mid five figures. I’m thinking of the safety and rights of millions of lives. I think an open war with Iran would lead to an unprecedented humanitarian and refugee catastrophe that would result in a cascade of failed states enveloping the mideast and eastern Europe, at minimum.

At the same time, Israel has all the institutions it needs right now to vote Bibi and his right wing fanatic friends out of office and I have hope the Israeli people will do that very soon. Democracy is too rare and precious to cede. Democracy is the path to lasting peace and human rights. Say that in Hamas territory and see if you don’t get stoned to death in front of a raucous crowd. So I’m not ready to feed it to the wolves.

International Law is not a “novel legal theory,” neither is Israel’s institutionalized apartheid regime of systematic oppression and domination of Palestinians.

As outlined above, apartheid consists of a system of prolonged and cruel discriminatory treatment by one racial group of members of another with the intention to control the second racial group. This chapter examines the extent to which Israel has created such a system of oppression and domination over Palestinians in all areas under its jurisdiction and effective control, as well as over Palestinian refugees whose right of return to their homes remains controlled by Israel. It does so by first establishing Israel’s intent to oppress and dominate all Palestinians by establishing its hegemony across Israel and the OPT, including through means of demography, and maximizing resources for the benefit of its Jewish population at the expense of Palestinians. It then analyses the laws, policies and practices which have, over time, come to constitute the main tools for establishing and maintaining this system, and which discriminate against and segregate Palestinians in Israel and the OPT today, as well as controlling Palestinian refugees’ right to return. It divides this analysis by the key components of this system of oppression and domination: territorial fragmentation, segregation and control, dispossession of land and property and the suppression of Palestinians’ human development and deprivation of their economic and social rights.

What part don’t you understand? Israel was going to invade Rafah either way. Might as well try and get something out it that may not save another 10,000 Gazans, but perhaps will prevent hot open war, saving hundreds of thousands of lives in the process.

Sounds like this deal was misreported anyway because according to some commenters Israel has struck Iran.

I don’t think he needed to plan it. This is just convenient. He knew one way or another he would get his way. Hell he’d do it without Biden’s approval if needed, wouldn’t be the first time they gave the US the middle finger. They know going directly against Israel is political suicide in the US.

Can’t wait for the Biden apologists to give their hot takes on this one.

Israel doesn’t exist without American military support, period.

Redeploy the carrier groups, and Israel’s entire strategy goes up in smoke, as they are reliant on Aegis to protect their airspace.

If the US doesn’t help them, and they suffer a larger attack because of it, we then find out if they truly have nuclear weapons, which also isn’t a good outcome.

This is all lose lose lose.

No one was interested in an escalation except Israel. Iran has repeatedly shown that they want to keep it at fighting through proxies. Syria is in shambles and Lebanon is struggling too. Jordan, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are all bought by the US.

Israel will stay at war, because that is what is keeping Bibi in power and now they have the opportunity for mass murder and land grabs like they haven’t had in a long time.

The US could end all of this and if the US wasn’t a genocidal colonial force on both parts of the political isle, it would do so.

It’s not about religion. Don’t fall for this narrative.

Iran has its Jewish community which has political representatives.

At the end of the discussion Khomeini declared, “We recognize our Jews as separate from those godless, bloodsucking Zionists”[62] and issued a fatwa decreeing that the Jews were to be protected.

If they use nukes they lose all rights to being a state. Possibly their lease on their mortal coils as well. This isn’t the 1970’s, Jordan and Egypt aren’t going to invade; and Syria or Lebanon would just be a clown show.

Biden is the dude that fist-bumped that Saudi ruler who ordered the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi on foreign soil. Same Saudi ruler who gave Jared Kushner $2 billion to invest thanks to his time serving in his father-in-laws administration. Same Kushner who joked the Palestinian land would have some great beach front property for development (post genocide).
