Is the server facing too much of a load with the influx of new users? Lemmy.world has been down a few times in the last few days, but the admins have usually been prompt to respond to issues. Is it the instance that is the bottleneck? Or are there some lingering effects from the hack a bit back?

Thanks

Yes. It is currently being held up by 3 raccoons in a trench coat.

Hey, it’s hard work holding up two raccoons. But at least the trench coat’s keeping me warm in the data center.

Lemmy has a lot of work that needs to go into it in order to handle very large instances like this one. Fortunately the community seems to be patient, but these issues won’t go away overnight.

So the answer to your question is yes… for now. But they’ll fix it. Reddit had the same issues early on and they fixed it.

That said, we don’t all need to crowd onto one instance and shouldn’t do so. If you’re advising new users, I’d point them toward an instance with 100-1000 users. With your month-old active account… this is your home though and if you can be patient I think they’ll start to get ahead of the growth as long as people don’t keep dog-piling here exclusively.

This instance is great for Lemmy as it stresses the software to the limit in order for the devs to optimize it.

Is it linked to Lemmy not able to block communities on my .world account? On other instances blocking works fine
