Europe can stop supporting Ukraine anytime they want and let the Russia border expand 817 miles further west into Europe. I’m sure that won’t have any bad consequences for Europe at all.

See the president of Bulgaria has very limited role in the actual ruling of the country, in that sense whatever he says doesn’t really matter since the actual government is very pro-west. On the other hand that’s not such a bad thing because it kind of balances the political scene. We’ve had a pawn president before and that was an absolute clown fiesta.

I’m not going to sugar coat it though, it is what it is - there are plenty of people (mostly older people) who are very pro-east around here, we even have a pro-nazi party in the parlament.

Yeah, too soon for Bulgaria to join the Euro and probably Schengen. With bigger European integration comes more power of influence and we already have one Hungary in Schengen. Bulgaria needs to sort out how European it really feels before becoming a core-EU country. Seems like Russia is still quite popular in the country.

Radev is a clown but he was the only half-decent candidate at the time. That’s one of the tamer things he said. The other day during Zelenskiy’s visit he straight up told him in his face, that this war won’t end with sending more weapons so we shouldn’t send our rusty good for nothing junk to Ukraine in case we need to defend our country.

You know, seeing someone being beaten up and not helping them so it’s over sooner. He was propped up by the pro-russian party and remains pro-russian regardless of what he says.

Also Zelenskiy(perephrasing): These weapons will be useless if Russia comes at your doorstep. This isn’t to say that your army is weak but you can’t defend from a country of 150 million by yourselves.

On the other hand I believe this is a PR move. The role of the President is mainly ceremonial, even though he can veto laws he doesn’t like. People here still believe Russia is our saviour and liberator. That we would speak Turkish on the streets and be Muslim if it wasn’t for them. In fact I can’t say what I just wrote in public or I might get into a heated argument or beaten up.

Bulgaria has been supporting Ukraine under the table long before the first weapons were officially sent. Arsenal (our biggest weapons manufacturer) worked in full force since the start of the invasion and the government at the time sent weapons without telling the public in a typical Bulgarian fashion.

What an absurd framing. If anything it’s Russia who insits on fighting this war and started it in the first place. Russia could end the war tomorrow by withdrawing all their troops beyond the (2014) border.

If I understand that correctly, it’s baffling me how blithely some people show their brain farts to the public.

I’d gladly pay my part of the bill if I don’t have to put up with imperialist Russia after that.
