I’ve been thinking about getting a black cat after graduation. I want to pick a black cat cuz I think they’re pretty cool. So might as well think of a name first rather than giving them one when I am actually carrying them home.

One of my friends has given me the name “Murphy” and I think that’s actually kinda cool, like 4 out of 5. I was thinking Inky, Pancake, and Filigraph (if the cat is striped). What do you think about the names? Are there any other cool names?

We named our black cat Alcatraz but it didn’t stick, mainly because I started calling him Darkness. Cause you’d go into a dark room and accidentally sit on him. You had to learn to look for this darker spot in the dark. Our youngest child couldn’t say darkness and what he said sounded like Dennis so now we call him Dennis.

My cat is also named Dennis, though because he was a mischievous kitten and named after Dennis the Menace. Though I’ve had more than one person ask if he was named after Nedry in Jurassic Park…

I may be a weirdo, but I’ve always named cats after adopting. I like to get to know the cat a bit before deciding on a name. Shadow and Midnight are two that I considered for my black cat.

Ours is named Frank Reynolds because he always looks haggard due to his long wispy hair. And I think it’s funny to give animals “human” names.

I had a black cat when I was a kid and his name was Spooky. I think if I ever have another male black cat, I’d name him Nox, or for a female, Nyx.
