Baby’s drinking with his mouth. He’s just got his nose in the water, maybe to practice or maybe because he’s not in control of it yet to keep it up out for breathing. When Mama drinks, she is able to fill just her trunk without letting any water get into her sinuses, and then blow the water back out into her mouth. When baby is a little bigger he can use his trunk as a snorkel and swim around.
