Hey all, I’m a cis ally in the upper Midwest of the USA. I offered a room to Keris a while back and she accepted.
She got here Wednesday night and things are going very well. She likes me, my wife, and our cats and one dog, and is learning to tolerate the other.
She has an attic bedroom that is her space alone.
She has time to unwind and figure out what she wants to do without fear of being dumped on the streets.
I just wanted to let you all know that we have taken her in and that she is safe and loved.
[Joke] Halp I’m locked in the basement he makes me eat only Spicy Nacho Doritos!
Wait, that’s fine, the basement doesn’t have a lock, and the dogs ate the Doritos 😅 Also I live in the attic.
Apparently I’ve joined the family via the approval of the cats and dogs 😅 One of the dogs isn’t bad, even! Other one’s a hellacious pest 😅 Distracted by Star Wars @.@ Maybe yap more later

I’m someone who had a lost decade due to various problems and eventually recovered, married, and got my wife the house always wanted, her grandmothers place.
That attic bedroom isn’t used. It’s been more or less storage for Christmas stuff.
The intention is that she has exactly that, time, peace, support, and few demands. We aren’t rich but it isn’t taxing to have someone else here.
Plus we are all weird nerds and we are getting along fantastically.
We also have decent support here in town for her and a few other local allies. But I am admittedly new at this, and just glad that I can provide the help and that we all like spending time together.
I think your very kind and I’m glad things are looking upwards for Keris 😁
Very happy to hear this, and hope she can get some comfortable rest (preferably alongside at least one cat, they’re good at that sort of thing).
Having the time and space to not have to think is a wonderful thing
The only problem there at the moment is the cats can’t get up and down unless the door is open.
We have offered to put in a cat door if/when she wants.
We usually have at least one cat in bed with us so my bet is she would too.
(It’s five cats, Bernie Sanders, Miles Morales, Troy Barnes, Abed Nadir, and Maryjane.)

Yep, you’re a really awesome person! Love those names. And I would bet money Keris would be so happy to have a little kitty door so they can visit her. She adores cats.
Absolutely, it’s just a matter of time and getting the cat door put in. The cats have never been allowed up there so they’ll love exploring the new territory too.
Finally, Keris hasn’t seen Community yet so she’ll soon see who inspired Troy and Abed, who are brothers, by the way.
I’ve heard so many good things about that show, I’ll get around to watching it at some point! I have a monstrous backlog of things to watch… mostly anime, and a yearly rewatch of LoTR extended (which I’m 1 movie in on right now, the actor for Theoden just died 😢)
I’m slightly obsessed. My phone’s ringtone is from the Conspiracy Theory episode, Professor Professorson’s ringtone. (Dun-dun-DUNNNNNN)
Idunno, might be weird to be cuddled by some strange attic-creature 🤔 They could probably get used to it though ba-dum tssh! 🤣
In my experience cats usually ARE the “strange attic creature” 😁

Oddly/sadly, we have already had that discussion with Keris as we are in a position to get her up to Canada if things get more dangerous.
And yes, thank you, this is why I stepped up, because I can and I haven’t been. It’s always gnawed at me knowing I could help more if I just opened up.
Thanks for helping out Keris! I’m very glad she found a safe place to stay. I live in Minnesota too but I don’t have the means to help much and I was really worried about her so I’m glad to hear she’s doing well!
