If anyone wants to watch some racing this weekend I highly suggest checking out Formula E.
It’s spec series electric racing, the latest gen 3 cars have 350kw of power and top speeds up to 200mph.
Check out the community at [email protected]
I tried to watch a race on TV several times, but between the weird squeaky sounds and the city tracks, which severely lack any character, it’s not for me.
Maybe it’s enjoyable in person, also the tickets are actually affordable.
The sound does take some getting used to, but I drive an EV so am some what acclimatised. I do like the fact you can hear the tyres though.
Personally the street circuits work for me, for formula e, as the close walls increase the drama. I don’t enjoy them for formula 1 because they make over taking so hard, but that’s not really an issue here.
Absolutely enjoyed Formula E when there was a E-Prix in Zürich (like 30 min from where I live), I feel like more overtakes or just more in general happens than in Formula 1 (as I have said feel) but I totally forgot it exists. Thank you for reminding me :)
Not a spec series
Fair point, I always wrongly think of it as spec because the chassis is spec.
F-E is so much better in person
Saw them in Portland this year, the sound was so much less harsh and way more enjoyable. The squeaking was the tyre noise, which was a new one to get used to.
Absolutely produces some great racing though. Everyone should check out their Monaco race if you want to know how much better for overtaking these cars are.
Portland was so much chaos, five wide into T1
I’ve got T1 grandstand seats for Indycar and I’m super excited. Also planning on going back to F-E next year. Had a great time this year
I’m on the west coast so portland even being an option next year sounds great, I would love to go
Absolutely go do it. Tickets were super cheap, the event was run great and I had a great time. Portland, while it has problems, is a beautiful city and the track really is fun to watch
INDYCAR does the same, every year.
This year is the first I’m gonna miss the Portland Grand Prix since it’s return. I’ve had grandstands at the festival curves the whole time and it’s always a great watch.
I remember when F1 changed to hybrid engines and it was the first time I’d heard the tyre squeel over the noise of the engine, it took a while to get used to it.
Today’s race starts in about 10 minutes, if people want to watch.
Jaguar lockout on the front row, and title contenders Dennis, Cassidy and Wehrlein, in 7th, 9th and 10th.
I would say it’s fine. Just mark your post with [OT] so people know it’s off topic but related to formula 1.
I’ve tried getting into Formula E a few times but the tracks are so boring and ugly, and the sound is borderline painful
the racing is pretty good though so I’ll try and catch the race this weekend
is Dario still commentating? I love that guy
It’s Tom Brooks this week https://nitter.net/TomBrooksComms/status/1678769375686557696#m
