They are tho. Unless you’re scarfing down dozens of Hershey Kisses a day, you’ll be fine eating them whole. Edible =/= tasty or recommended, but you’re not gonna die either.

To be clear here though, they are made to be edible since people would likely assume they are part of the product and eat them. It would be irresponsible for them to not be edible.

Doesn’t the FDA require food stickers to be non toxic (I am bristling at the usage of edible…). I would think that the paper in the candy would fall under the same rules.

What about the foil wrapper it comes in? Thats not edible even if non-toxic, but the strip to open it is since it’s inside the wrapping of the product. Leading people to think it’s edible.

          Yes people can be dumb.

This is why as a kid I came up with eatable as an alternative word meaning not only can you eat it, but you (or someone) would actually want to.

Huh, well it looks like there’s usage that predates that, but I hadn’t heard it prior to my own usage.

They are technically edible, but not meant to be eaten.

Edible means it’s safe to eat, so paper is edible, arsenic is not.

Funny story about Hershey Kisses. When they were hand wrapped, they paid their workers by-the-Kiss, so there were all kinds of techniques to increase output. The most efficient way to get the chocolate kiss to stick to the wrapper was to lick the bottom so it held tight when you twisted it closed. There’s a good chance your parents and definitely grandparents ate prelicked chocolate kisses.

You can eat that little paper with no harmful effects, so I’d say it’s edible. Just not nutritious or, as you said, good.
