Just like with the semi-finals, this is the live thread for the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
As there is (to my knowledge), no Lemmy equivalent to https://reddit-stream.com/, the best alternative is refreshing the website about once after each song. This should still be okay for now as this community is relatively small.
Sort by New to see the newest comments or additionally click on the Chat button to break the replies apart and even show the newest replies.

Thanks to @[email protected], there are some links for the Grand Finale:

Highlights from the Dutch broadcast (paraphrased):

    • “The EBU reminded us that we’re contractually obligated to do this broadcast.”
    • “Instead of the Netherlands we skip to Isreal, good thing they are completely uncontroversial.”
    • “Everyone makes mistakes, the EBU also knows a lot about that.”

The head of their broadcasting company said “fuck the ebc” on video before the final.

Thanks for the correction. All of the info I have seen supported my statement, but I am in the states and getting info third hand.

Good. They should even increase it (no matter how much it is right now)

Every user can vote 20 times. It just takes dedication and maybe some rigging to get that many points

Yeah what? Like it was a grand tune but absolutely was not expecting that from the public vote.

Edit: Just saw the result of the Irish public vote and Israel got 10 in fairness with Croatia getting a well deserved 12.

Danish public vote awarded 8 points to Israel. What a fucking disgrace.

Come to think of it, in Denmark we could only vote by SMS and we know how easily phone numbers are spoofed. Maybe someone with time on their hand could correlate the numbers between SMS voting and votes to Israel if it’s possible to get those numbers.

Switzerland is just really great. How he’s able to sing while leaning backwards and spinning on the disk, it’s insane. And additionally to that, it’s the hardest song of the year (I’d even say by quite some margin). His singing talent is insane and I love the song itself as well. It’s just beautiful.

Definitely getting the love from the jury vote.

Yea, I was looking for someone to point that out. That’s almost opera-level singing.

I don’t understand why this person is getting so much hate. I admit, the song is not to my personal taste, but I I was wow-ed by his vocal abilities.

Switzerland deserved it, im suprised about germany, ireland deserved a bit better and i think fuckery happened with israel. Really bummed about netherlands tho.

If Netherland wouldn’t have happened, this would have been such a great ESC. But yeah… they just needed to fuck it all up.
Honestly, while I’m happy about Switzerland (and Germany tbh), I’m just… still feeling awful, because I feel so sorry for Joost, as this was so important and emotional to him with his parents. I really despise Österdahl and the EBU right now for taking that from him.

I dont get why the jury from netherlands was banned aswell, felt really awful

Correction from comments: Not banned but stepped down, still felt wierd

As far as I know, they weren’t banned, there was just no-one willing to be a spokesperson lol. But this is just what I heard from a comment in a thread, so don’t take it as verified.

Nikki de Jager (who was supposed to be the spokesperson) said on TV that it didn’t feel right to hand out points. The Dutch broadcaster then told the EBU to just figure it out themselves.
Käärijä (Finland) also stepped down but got replaced, and Alessandra (Norway) already stepped down earlier because of Isreal.

Were they banned? It’s just announcing the twelve-point vote, I assumed they didn’t want to participate anymore after being disqualified.

People told ORF in the last few years that our acts aren’t good at stage performances, so they chose a performer/choreographer this year haha

Yea but “ram di dam dam” is just too ridiculous imo. Love the show, the song, dance and everything but that text sounds like satire of the genre

And also Joost had his own Rammstein moment…

I wonder how the voting would have been different with Europapa. I think Croatia would have considerably less televoting as many people switched from Netherlands to Croatia (a post suggesting to do that on Reddit literally has 10 000 upvotes). But otherwise, I don’t really know what would have been different.
I’m still really heartbroken for Joost and I definitely hope that this all will be resolved with strong consequences for the EBU.
