The case is one of several percolating in federal courts that test the boundaries of a religious exception. The stakes are enormous, affecting schools and possibly nurses at religious hospitals.
We need to remove faith based organizations from as much of the public services as possible. As far as I am concerned, a faith based solution is the same as not having a solution at all of this is how they plan to run things.
They should absolutely not be allowed to own healthcare facilities. Almost every single hospital around me at this point is religious, specifically some variation or another of Christian. This has accelerated rapidly in the last few years. They weren’t always religiously oriented, but they got bought out. Because hospitals (as well as other medical facilities such as primary care and urgent care clinics) ate businesses which are expected to make more and more money quarter after quarter. They sell out to the highest bidder, who in turn has nice high profitability already.
And now, in these days of attacks against reproductive freedom, it seems like even here in liberal Seattle, you might end up turned away from your doctor for abortion services because every hospital is now Christian. Of course, there will be other alternatives, but not everybody knows that. So many just know to go to the ER when they are unwell in any way.
