I don’t know if my neighbors ar going to love me or hate me - tiny yards all close together so they’re going to smell what’s cooking……

I have no idea what I’m doing but go big or go home: here’s two big ass pieces of meat (14# pork butt came apart)

First obstacle: how do you pick up a 14# hunk of hot meat? I don’t think any of my cooking utensils can handle that. I didn’t leave room for the tray of Mac and cheese I wanted to add, plus it will eventually be cooked

    Money Shot!

The big payoff from all that time!

    • apricot pulled pork on toast bun, pickles, and apricot bbq sauce
    • smoked Mac and cheese.
    • Elotes

Out of time and space. No Tardis to the rescue, had to use the propane grill for corn and to toast the buns

Grill started filling up fast. If you use it in place of an oven, it’s surprising how big you can actually use.

The lessons here are definitely assemble the Mac and cheese the previous night if you can, to save assembly time, and maybe don’t get excited enough to overdo everything. I cancelled the salad, no one has room for the pie yet, one pan of Mac and cheeses would have been more than enough, and there’s probably over 10# meat leftover. I’m going to have the best leftovers all week

First annoyance: still haven’t gotten WiFi connected. I have a strong signal, and can connect to the grill’s WiFi but the setup process won’t connect to my WiFi. Best guess is I need to turn the grill around so all that metal is not between the grills WiFi and my Access point.

As a computer guy, I get frustrated when consumer goods attempt to “make it easy” by trying too hard to hide the details so you have nothing to go on and can’t easily connect without the “consumer-friendly” gui. Is it really too much to ask for an error message or verbose output?

But I do have timers so this round is the old fashioned way

I don’t think they can connect to 5ghz networks so that might be the issue. Also try rebooting your phone / router to start fresh and it might work.

I just had to turn the grill around, and WiFi connected easily. That’ll do for now, but I’ll need to figure out a better location now that the grill is facing the wrong direction.

I would have thought that when you add WiFi to a metal product that you find a way to make it not block itself.

Yeah, I do have 2.4 GHz for smart home stuff. I know that’s working. But rebooting might be a good idea.

I don’t use the usually home private IP range but I do use a range reserved for corporate private networks, so hopefully that’s not it. It ought to use whatever my dhcp tells it to, but you never know

Shopping list. I did not think this through or investigate the details, but ……

    • silicone bbq gloves to pick up that monster
    • apple juice and some sort of sprayer to keep it from drying out

Did not get a chance to plan the meal but the grill arrived Thursday, I assembled Thursday night, Friday was burnin, and I have people coming over today, so trial by fire.

Couldn’t find my favorite gazpacho recipe, and it’s too late to make that today: it really needs to sit overnight. Too late for baked beans from scratch. I do have some corn and I thought I saw a Traeger recipe for something like Elotes I needs to find again. Maybe need to hunt down a Mac and cheese recipes e and go shopping

Too ambitious, too little planning …. I’ll throw on some shrimp and cut up watermelon for snacks to quiet the grumbling

    Poor kid ……

I did not really pay attention to how big this monster was going to be, and it was delivered while I was at work. I asked my teen to bring it to the back yard ….

Wow, that took a long time. I did not know whether to apologize or to laugh at the doorbell video. Apparently I did not need to worry about porch pirates: 175# box. Damn

Get a pair of heat insulated gloves. They are super heavy duty oven mitts. Great for picking up meat and also shredding cooked pork shoulder.

And yes, they were much better for shredding the pork. Thanks

Thanks. Home Depot had silicone “grilling gloves” that were just what I needed. A bit tight because “one size fits all” never does, but close enough

Plus they have Traeger rubs and sauces!
