Russian minefields have exposed the limitations of Western-provided armor, forcing Ukraine to rethink its counteroffensive, per The Washington Post.
As opposed to blindly damn the torpedoes full speed ahead? They need to preserve their equipment. The use of “abandoning” is yellow journalism.
This maybe be over simplified, but I thought I remember seeing vehicle designed for mine disposal. Basically, I remember what looked like a big bulldozer with a giant wheel with flails on it. If that exists, would equipment like that help, or is this situation different?
Yes it exists, and yes it will help. 2 problems with it.
- Mines aren’t the only thing there, Russians shooting at the operator are there too.
- A machine like that needs a lot of maintenance against a large number of mines.
That makes sense. I guess I’m not sure if they are viable, even to some extent in this conflict, vs walking exposed in a mine field with very limited chance for quick cover. It’s all around a super shitty situation that shouldn’t be.
Christ, manually demining by small teams crawling up and “trying to spot [mines]”.
Fuck. That.
