Is not required to read the linked article but on the second paragraph it says :
BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid technology which promises a combined range of up to 1,300 miles.
So, full tank of gas plus electric assist total range. Plug in hybrids have both electric and gas engines, the MPG they get is crazy as the electric gets the heavy lift and gas just runs at low rpms to maintain speed
That’s what I’m saying, a 10gal tank of gas will get you 500mi in most mid size hybrids of that type, a little further in something like a prius. You’d need a full size battery (full ev type capacity) plus another 10gal to get to that range which is an insane amount of weight to carry around.
