I see both sides = averaging nondiscrimination and fascism.

I actually see both sides, and I absolutely know which one I’m picking…

I don’t think of myself as far-left because that doesn’t say anything concrete about me. It only makes sense in the context of a well-understood political climate. I’d rather use a term that actually means something on its own. This is why I use the term progressive. It means something even if you take it out of the left-right spectrum context. If suddenly all right-wingers became left-wingers, the term left-wing would no longer mean anything. The term progressive, however, would still be abundantly clear.

But, you can be progressive left wing or right wing. Left wing and right wing have a pretty historical context of personal freedom vs hierarchical society. You can believe in progress in both of those PoVs. Ex. Left wing progressive, women can vote. Right wing progressive, women can be pope.

Another example, Iran has interesting right wing progressive ideas on homosexuality. If you are a man who wants to have sex with men, then your actually a woman and should get a sex change. (Still societal issues, but legally the only way to not be criminalized)

I would argue Iran has regressive ideas on homosexuality

Well, in an Islamic theocracy, death penalty for homosexuality is conservative. And in this case it confuses the idea of gay rights and trans rights in an odd way, but imagine, it’s the mid-1980s and the Supreme Ayatollah comes out with, it’s ok for men ro change their sex. That must have blown a bunch of the theocratic conservative minds at the time.

Not really - Apartheid South Africa had the exact same thing going. They literally forced homosexual men to undergo sex change operations - it’s just an extreme way of enforcing binary gender norms that (somehow) makes sense to those suffering from terminal right-wing brainrot.

Since when is there such a thing as a “far” left?
