Nicolas Cage’s new horror movie has landed a 100% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes ahead of its US release.
Longlegs sees Cage play a serial killer who is being pursued by FBI agent Lee Harker (played by It Follows’ Maika Monroe) who discovers a personal connection to the case.
The synopsis reads: “As the investigation becomes more complicated with occult evidence uncovered, Harker realises a personal link to the killer and must act quickly to prevent another family murder.”
The film hits US cinemas on July 12, but unfortunately, no UK release date has been announced yet.
According to critics, if you’re looking for a summer scare, Longlegs is one that will stick with you for a long time.
Slashfilm described it as: “The most terrifying horror movie of 2024, a film that gets under your skin and may never get out.”
And while “the most terrifying horror movie of 2024,” is a great accolade, Flickering Myth went even further and called it “the scariest film of the decade,” adding that it was a “pure horror experience.”
Nicholas Cage’s career really has taken an interesting turn over the past decade. And with all the weird stuff surrounding his personal life (buying Madame LaLaurie’s house, the ridiculous stuff he wears) he’s probably our most documentary-worthy living actor
Seems like he was addicted to spending money, then had to say yes to every project presented so he could actually afford all his crap
Yeah, it feels like there is a wild, no-holds-barrred biography or two in all this - I suspect he might be up for it too!
Ahh, the final chapter in the trilogy that has thus far given us Mandy and Willy’s Wonderland. I can’t wait!
Color of Space is also really good
He’s had a really consistently good run since his financial difficulties meant he was grabbing any job offered - Willy’s Wonderland, Pig, Unbearable Weight, Renfield, Dream Scenario, Arcadian, The Surfer and now this.
Renfeild was awesome. I’ll have to check out the rest. I’ve loved to hate Nic but. I’d love to love him. After wickerman? I was pretty much on the hate train lol
I’m Team Cage all the way baby! However, even I have to admit that for a while it was hard going picking the pearls from the pig shit (although even in truly terrible films like Jiu Jitsu, his turn is almost worth watching everything else for. Almost). Luckily, everything seems to be turning around for him at the moment so you can take a punt on most recent films. However, if I had to pick one from that list for a Cage-sceptic then it would be Pig.

OK, so you haven’t dabbled much since Wicker Man? If so, then the list gets more interesting:
- Ghost Rider (both) - not critically well received but he is great in the role and I hope to see him return to mentor younger Ghost Riders.
- National Treasure (both) - a good Indy-lite archaeological adventurer movie, of which there are quite a few but most aren’t that great.
- Knowing - odd film that I maybe didn’t like as much as other people but definitely watch it.
- Bad Lieutenant - didn’t think the remake would be any good and without Cage it would have struggled.
- Kick-Ass - more a supporting role for the supporting role but he does a great job with it.
- Drive Angry - an absolute blast that I enjoyed way more than most, especially as it embraces the Cageness of it all.
- Joe - a more understated performance but he nails it. Another one for the Cage-sceptical.
- Mom and Dad - Cage gets the Rage virus and unleashes maximum Cage on his kids.
- Mandy - peak Cage, it fully leans into the craziness he can bring to the screen. So good I bought the t-shirt.
- Colour Out of Space - one of the best Lovecraft adaptation, especially for ones that stick closer to the original text. The director Richard Stanley has spent too long on the sidelines but I hope this gets him more work.
Which, as I wasn’t as much of a fan of Prisoners of Ghostland as I thought I’d be (Cage and Sion Sono working together - what could go wrong? Plenty, apparently) brings us back to the start of that list. There’s plenty of top notch films in there covering a wide range of genres, so there should be something to tickle your fancy. If you find yourself converted then don’t overlook Butcher’s Crossing and Sympathy for the Devil from his recent work.
Don’t forget Cage and Fitchner in Drive Angry.

I’ve been meaning to dig into “take every role” Cage and it just keeps building into one epic marathon I’m gonna do at some point.
Personal opinion and all but Willy’s Wonderland was horrendous.
What are the other 2 movies in this trilogy? I’m not familiar with any of this but I’m interested to see!
Mandy, from 2018, and Willy’s Wonderland. Not officially a trilogy as far as I know.
Just my headcannon: The Janitor from Willy’s Wonderland is just Red from Mandy years after consuming The Chemist’s concoction silently wandering rural North America and destroying evil where he finds it.
