I want to call him a useful idiot but I’m afraid that will defame all idiots.

Now even the dumbest idiot should know that Farage should not be voted for.

I am not and never have been an apologist or supporter of Putin. His invasion of Ukraine was immoral, outrageous and indefensible. As a champion of national sovereignty, I believe that Putin was entirely wrong to invade the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Nobody can fairly accuse me of being an appeaser. I have never sought to justify Putin’s invasion in any way and I’m not now.

Bet they didn’t quote this bit though, eh?

But the part they like is that he blamed the West for somehow forcing them into a war of aggression against a weaker neighbouring county that they had already invaded in 2014 and whose government they had interfered with, including installing their stooge Yanukovich.

They can ignore the disclaimers, they got the substantial part of their deal.

Now he can enjoy dirty Russian money via back channels, just like Le Pen, Orban and the rest of the jackbooted shits.

Maybe read the article and find out

The inews article does quote that paragraph, but it does not say whether the Russian media who praise Farage mentioned it. I’m going to guess not.

Aside: Farage is so full of shit it’s amazing he manages to sit down without it dribbling out of his mouth… “[Here’s why Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is the fault of Western ‘liberals’…] I have never sought to justify Putin’s invasion in any way and I’m not now.” Sadly, his open contempt for the intelligence of his supporters seems to be entirely justified.

Ahh, I hadn’t interpreted the comment that way. I thought that Jackthelad was suggesting Farage was being unfairly maligned by the article. My apologies if I got that wrong

That’s weird. Why do the titles claim he said the opposite of what you quote? The more I listen to him directly (rather than read headlines about him), the more he starts to seem like just a classical tory from the 90s or 00s.

      Edit: I stand corrected

I suspect that Powell would be disgusted by someone like Farage. Powell was wrong-headed and eccentric, but not a con artist. And he was responsible for the deaths of many Nazis and Japanese Imperial soldiers.

If you watch the linked video, it talks about Farage trying to ally himself with Powell and Powell rejecting his advances. So yes, you’re correct. My point was the Tories had a vocal racist in their ranks, and they kicked him out. A racist that Farage idolises.

The Tories are scumbags but at least they have (or had) a veneer of some kind of morals about them. Farage doesn’t have that quality, so to say he’s reminiscent of a 90s or 00s Tory is raising him above his station. Even if it’s an incredibly low bar to begin with.

He shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a position of power.

Because he actually did say the opposite of what was quoted? It wouldn’t be the first time he was talking out both sides of his mouth.

Because we live in a society that doesn’t read articles anymore, and gets all of their news just from headlines.

It’s easier for editors to make a provocative headline than it is to make a balanced one.
