    *checks notes* Trump was president for two weeks after the January-6 insurrection. So it was his justice department initiated the investigations of the participants in the insurrection. Furthermore, at anytime during those two weeks he could have issued a sweeping pardon for all of the insurrectionists but chose instead to pardon 116 other people that month.

    If they are hostages, then Trump is the one who took them hostage.
