According to officials, the explosion occurred near Sapphire Pool, located just north of the famous Old Faithful geyser. The eruption sent a dangerous mix of steaming hot, boiling water, rocks, and other debris into the air, causing significant damage by destroying the surrounding boardwalk and scattering debris over a wide area. Yellowstone Park rangers have since closed off the area to ensure public safety. Witnesses describe the scene as chaotic and terrifying, with many people scrambling for safety. As of now, it remains unclear if anyone was injured or hurt by the explosion

🚨#UPDATE: Yellowstone Park rangers have confirmed that no injuries occurred when the Biscuit Basin geyser had a hydrothermal explosion but Major damage has been reported to the surrounding boardwalk as photos show the boardwalk has since been closed to the public

Biscuit Basin, including the parking lot and boardwalks, are temporarily closed for safety reasons. The Grand Loop Road remains open.[1]

I live in Jackson so postponing isn’t a big deal. One heck of a show though.

It seems Biscuit Basin will be closed for 2024, but other locations in Yellowstone National Park are still open!

Yellowstone National Park has closed Biscuit Basin for the remainder of the 2024 season for visitor safety. Grand Loop Road remains open to vehicles, and other nearby thermal basins, like Black Sand Basin, are open.
