Please be nice to house centipedes, they’re friends. They won’t hurt you.

EDIT: Sorry OP, I shouldn’t have assumed any ill will, you seem cool!

Excuse me! What about the psychological trauma? Do you know what it’s like to be vulnerably taking care of natures business and have one of these demons scurry across your feet?

I do! We have them where I live and this has happened to me too lol. I like to consider it a sign of trust that they’re willing to get that close to me, even though it’s more likely they’re just kind of oblivious. Although, they do have the best eyesight of any centipede… so who knows!

Nice try, house centipede. I don’t know how you learned to type but I’m not falling for it.

It is an insectivore; it kills and eats other arthropods, such as insects and arachnids.[2]

      I’m sold

I fully intend on letting this fella continue to live on inside the house. I hear they live for years, and take care of little critters.

From my experience, they’ll be stuck in there until you help them out.

Leave him be. They’re like spider bros, they help take care of much worse insects and anthropods in the house

I used to live in an unfinished basement in Pennsylvania that had a lot of these little guys. They used to hang out on the stairs on the ceilings and in my nightmares. Never saw any other kind of bug in that house though

Take a strip of toilet paper and let it hang down into the sink to make a ladder so he can get back to work.

It’s a house centipede. They’re good guys, especially if you don’t like spiders.

If you don’t like spiders how is this better? I’d imagine people who hate spiders won’t fare any better with house centipedes.

Fair point. My guess would be they might like a trade-off of 1 centipede for dozens or hundreds of spiders. But I don’t mess with the house spiders either, they’re cool too.

If you can bear to get a lot closer, these little nuggets are actually pretty cute. They have stripes that can be nice blues, yellows and greens. They are excellent hunters, and their main prey are pests that are actually a cause for concern.

My partner and I call them “basement friends”.
