Among 47 traffic stops, police arrested 11 people and towed 10 vehicles. Some vehicles were lost to asset forfeiture, meaning the drivers lost the car permanently by participating in street racing. Most takeovers were broken up in minutes, police said in a news release.
I’m pretty unhappy with the whole idea of civil asset forfeiture.
Just the same, if anyone deserves it, it’s these dummies. The police department was even warning the public that they would be out there doing this. The whole event was a stupid one.
The article oversells it, Oregon law only allows forfeiture on conviction.
So the vehicles are impounded for now, but likely will be forfeit eventually.
I don’t agree with things like forfeiture of assets suspected to be bought using the proceeds of a crime, like seizing the house and assets of a suspected drug dealer or something because they must have bought it using cash from selling drugs.
However I have no problem seizing assets that are actively being used in a crime.
Take the cars of people street racing or driving drunk, just as you would take the guns of murderers and people performing armed robbery.
Why do they do these takeover events in populated cities? I mean they are obviously driving to a location for this so it’s not like they have to rely on public transport. Since they are driving anyways, why not just head to an abandoned airfield or abandoned mall parking lot or something. Doing this in the streets just seems dumb but n all accounts. They are more likely to get caught and more likely to injure others.
Because they are attention starved little babies.
Or, y’know, Portland International Raceway, which actually is more than happy to open its doors every Friday for guys like this to come and blow some steam off.
Pretty sure PIR requires license, registration, and insurance, and based on most of these arrests, that leaves these idiots out.
The danger is part is the appeal sadly.
Nothing like telling the street racers to get fucked to make cops and Portland be on the same side about something.
The best one out of all this:
What a trash website
So they were doing the cool Fast and Furious shit and got cancelled? Bummer.
Not always cool. Portland police used to turn a blind eye to it, then this happened:
Oh that’s fucked. It’s no good if they can’t actually handle themselves decently.
It’s not cool at all. They need to spend the money to rent time on tracks. Make it a show and make money of people who go would actually wanna see that.
I don’t agree with that. I don’t think the rich people who own the track should get to decide everything.
unironically advocating for racing on public roads because you can afford a car and racing as a hobby but not track time
Yeah, no. You don’t get to put others lives at risk without consent for a dumb little hobby.
Then whining about “being cancelled” because the public finally made the cops do something about this public nuisance…. lol.
To put the cherry on top, acting like you’re somehow the justified and non-entitled one for wanting to street race. LMAO.
That’s not how quoting works. Don’t put words in my mouth. I literally don’t own a car. Go fuck yourself.
And so the poor people on the street need to pay the price by being inconvenienced at best and injured at worst? That’s a stretch if I ever heard one. The racers are not noble in any way.
Killed. Killed at worst.
You just gonna insert your own implications into my comments while ignoring half of them? Get fucked.
lol, which ones did I ignore? Your pseudo half assed tankie bullshit comment about the “owner class” not getting what they want? Take that back to .ml or better yet go join lemmygrad. And what I did is called making a counterpoint. It’s a part of discussion. But yeah just keep feeling everyone to f themselves when they disagree with you.
PIR is owned by the city, genius.
And they host this stuff all the time. All these idiots had to do was pay the $40 car entry fee and they could party all night long.
Who is “the city”?
City of Portland. It’s a public facility.
Pretty sure PIR requires license, registration, and insurance. Based on the arrests being made, these idiots don’t qualify for PIR.
