      Hating (the out group).

Look at how Trump talks about Putin or Xi or Orban. They love (people that they think resemble) themselves.

At the centre of hating immigrants? The wealth gap

People need someone to blame and it isn’t going to be the guy with a mountain of cookies

Also, climate change. Climate refugees are making up an increasing percentage of immigrants (as well as contributing to an increase in the total number of immigrants) and that trend is only going to accelerate.

To be clear, it isn’t the fault of destitute people in developing countries that they’re being displaced due to climate change caused by rich people in developed countries.

In fact, the point I was really trying to get at is that right-wingers worldwide are manufacturing a refugee crisis with their environmental policy, and then using that as an excuse to crack down on minorities.

The hate, the greed, the anger, the smug bullying behavior… it all stems from the same thing: fear.

They’re afraid of change, afraid of people & cultures different than theirs, afraid of losing what little control & capital they may have, afraid of appearing weak.

And trump & his cronies prey on that fear to push their sick agenda. An agenda which boils down to taking away what little control & capital these people have, giving it all to billionaires, and then blaming people & cultures different than theirs.

American voters keep on voting for less immigration and our politicians keep on rewarding us with more.

Vance has a point there. You can think that nativism is selfish and bigoted (and I’m inclined to think so, as an immigrant myself) but you can’t deny that it is popular. It appears to be the main driving force of the resurgence of the far right across the Western world. Opposing nativism may be what one’s principles demand but it doesn’t help win elections, especially when the widespread perception is that pretty much anyone who wants to can just walk into the country.

The current state of the Mexican border and the current policy towards asylum seekers are an anchor holding the Democrats back. They can still win and anyway it’s too late now to change the situation before the election, but it would have been helpful if Biden had gotten it under control years ago.

Well, just to give a different, albeit also wrong, perspective (from a middle-european society):
Anyone that emigrated to the US after 1850 is not a native…so 70% of y’all are immigrants.
For me it is always a bit hilarious to read how immigrants are bitching about not letting too many immigrants in “their” country.

And as i said… I know my point is wrong to start with, but i am honest and aware about my biased view. Something more people should or could be.

I’m a 3rd generation from an immigrant family and absolutely support controlled immigration, even a lot of it. There seems to be often presented or perceived this false choice between no immigration and completely uncontrolled open borders. The conversation needs more subtlety, but Harris does at least seem to many to have some baggage related to the border the last three years.

“Controlled” is the right world. I think the perception that the federal government cannot or will not control immigration is hurting the Democrats more than the immigration itself. Ideally the immigrants entering the USA would only be the ones specifically chosen by the federal government.

The southern border has not been secure for decades. Democrats and Replublicans have promised to secure the southern border for decades and neither party when elected do anything meaningful to secure the border or deport illegals.

    No border = no country.

It has nothing to do with “hate”. The word “hate” has little meaning when lefties say it since lefties by large had extreme hatred towards the unvaxxed during the pandemic and claim to be the most ethicial of people. It has to do with legitimate national security and maintaining Amercian culture and demographics.

It might shock you to learn the best way to prevent immigration is to make the countries experiencing outflows more stable and liveable, but I’m gonna take a wild guess you don’t like foreign aid.

      maintain demographics

There sure was a lot of hand wringing before you wrote down what your actual problem with immigration was.

Pray tell what is the ideal demographic make up if the United States?

Correct. End foreign aid. And no, helping other countries does not work as reality shows.

what is the ideal demographic make up if the United States?

        Those who built the country.

Monero is private censorship resistant money and therefore is pro self custody of money and pro financial privacy which has nothing to do with borders or national security.

This comment history is so cancerous. I hope you’re an edge teen that doesn’t believe this stuff.

Have fun angering people online, I guess. It’s a dumb hobby IMO. You could do something cooler like learning guitar or painting.
