In her email, Shafik said she would be accepting a role with the UK’s foreign secretary, “to chair a review of the government’s approach to international development”.

These assholes only seen to fall upwards

Shafik authorized New York police to move on to campus and break up the encampments, claiming they “pose a clear and present danger to the substantial functioning of the university”. Forty-six students were arrested and, after students continued their occupation, many more were suspended. Media were prohibited from entering campus to cover the arrests.

Excited to see this kind of energy transferred to the UK’s foreign policy and their attitude towards migrants.

Going from university president to chair a government review committee is not a promotion. Or even a lateral move.

Who do you think has more influence over policy? A school administrator or a ministry chairperson?

A university president has more influence than a committee chair.

What international foreign policy does the President of Columbia set?

The chair of a review committee does not set policy. They simply get a voice in the committee that sends reports that might be read by the people who set policy.

And influence is not measured solely by committee assignments. Otherwise, Elon Musk would lack any influence.

The chair of a review committee does not set policy.

                You are mistaken.

They simply get a voice in the committee that sends reports that might be read by the people who set policy.

They author the policies that the MPs vote on. Show me a piece of legislation passing through Parliament or an executive level policy decision, and I’ll show you the committee that penned it. The Cass Report is a great example.

And influence is not measured solely by committee assignments.

Sure. There’s also money. Guess which job puts you in a better position to take bribes?

                  They author the policies

If the chair gets to write policy, what do the other committee members do?

I’ll show you the committee that penned it

“All legislation passed through a committee” does not mean “All committee output becomes legislation”.

I have no idea whether she was good or bad with regard to how she handled protests but goddamnit I’m mad that Israel can just fuck up people’s jobs because they refuse to stop genociding. As soon as the boomers are gone, I predict a very different attitude towards them. They know, which is why they’re so mask-off now.
