Russia and Ukraine should negotiate an end to their conflict to avoid the war spilling over into Belarus, President Alexander Lukashenko, a key ally of Vladimir Putin, said in an interview with Russian state television.

Yeah. Lukashenko knows the war is really unpopular with his people and that supporting Russia with troops would be a death sentence for him.

That Lukashenko didn’t even condem the Ukrainian counterinvasion shows how much of a minefield this war is for him.

Because Russian troops are stationed within a day’s travel of Minsk and the country depends on Russia for ocean access?

Same reason Kazakhs have traditionally supported Russia, until they got that new shipping route built that bypasses Russia entirely.

Moreso, Russia has actively supported the current Belarusian government including helping to put down protests in Belarus.

He may actually be huge but anyone would look big when you’re sitting next to a very small man.

They’ve tried. Didn’t work out well. I’ll leave that as an exercise to the reader, I’m not sure what’s been decided is misinformation.

I reckon his border to Russia isn’t defended very well.

His country is a defence of Russian border. At least a buffer zone.
