‘I love the poorly educated!" - Trump

Same for the Dems too. They love voters who blindly follow them.

I don’t mind if I give them info and I get a free drink (or something like that) back. That’s an exchange I’m willing to make. If they demand my info and give shit back then that’s the issue.

…and nation, you have a role to the nation. It’s not necessary a loving one, and part of it should be the willingness to violently protest your own nation when it turns on you.

Remember those times fans used violence in support of the most popular “left” politicians:

    • Bernie Sanders
    • Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
    • Barack Obama
    • etc…

Of course you don’t, because they didn’t happen. Far-right extremists are a cancer that needs to be cut out.

Parasocial relationships are unhealthy, even if they are with good people.

Actually he’s the only senate member who happens to be an independent who probably does care lol.

Not that it makes a functional difference, but at least we got 1 / (100 + 435 + presidential cabinet + presidential appointees + SCOTUS + federal court judges)

They’re not inherently unhealthy lol. They can be great. Find you some therapists to follow on YouTube or something. The ones I’ve found inspired me to go back to school and become one myself:)

I’m not sure what about my comment made you think that’s my opinion, but no, just taking some advice from a video obviously wouldn’t meet the threshold. I’m talking finding creators you watch regularly and feel connected to while they have zero or very limited awareness to your existence. They shouldn’t be the ONLY relationships you have, but they are natural and should be encouraged to the extent that they are healthy. Think of it like eating sweets. It’s natural, part of our hardwiring to enjoy, but we want to be mindful of our consumption.

Some politicians are people who went into politics wanting to help others and make a positive difference. Others are predators. Sometimes you get to vote between one of each category.

And much more often, you get to choose between a sometimes helpful opportunist and a predator. The choice is still clear, but nowhere near as pleasant.

A good one could. “Agape” or love for your people, who you represent or fight for. Imagine if MLK had an office. Some people do care. I think Sanders does, who has a high enough profile for people to know about him. Sawant also.

i think the issue is that the media dominating US is basically like sports fans, but there are only 2 teams (that actually matter) so it always comes down to an US vs Them attitude, for me here in Europe there is the party that’s closest to my views and then there is the party that’s close enough and actually have a chance to do things, so I vote for them and if they stop doing the things I want them to do, I will vote some other party.

I once went to a superbowl party where the host filled a few coolers with beers and taped a presidential candidates name on top of each cooler. People voted by grabbing a beer from their guys cooler.

American politics never made as much sense to me as it did in that moment.

Not really related but you comment reminds me that in a lot of places, you dip your finger in purple stain after you cast your vote, and that’s how they make sure everyone gets to vote and nobody votes twice. Like, if there’s no ink on your finger yet, you can walk in and vote. Even if your not from there.

There’s never going to be any such think as a perfect election. There’s always going to be people voting that shouldn’t be, or votes that don’t get counted correctly, and that sucks but it’s a massive undertaking with opportunities for mistakes everywhere.

In other words, the election result are always going to be an approximation of the electorate’s will. We should aim to be close but not perfect.

All of my local candidates always run independent in my small town because it is so divided. There’s really not much will for parties to control the town.

The mixed effects of Celebrity and Tribalism are incredible.

I like to think I’m very logical, been in contact with the Acting World in the UK (plus some of my friends had seen the TV World from the inside) which really tore down a lot of the impact I would get from other people being Famous: basically what we on the outside see about Famous people is a highly managed and complete total bollocks image (possibly worse so in Politics) and even barelly know fringe actors are under social/professional pressure to manage their public impression and say certain things but not others.

Further, I’m in my 50s, lived in several countries, seen quite a bit more than the average person, am at the top of my profession and am hardly lacking in self-confidence or self-belief.

And yet, some time ago when I joined a small political party where I live now - Portugal - (were “small political party”, unlike in the US, means they have members of Parliament and the leaders are frequently interviewed on TV) and went to a “Welcome to the Party” meeting for members in the district that contains the capital city of the country, I could feel the “Uh, ahh, important person” feeling and the umconfortable self-awareness in the presence of such people.

    For! Fuck’s! Sake!

I think this crap has nothing to do with Logic (as logically being well-known has very little to do with wisdom or most other qualities except perhaps presentation, and leadership of a Party is seldom the resultof the qualities traditionally deemed to be admirable and which make a Great Man or Great Woman) and comes from some deep down pack instinct or whatever such crap.
