Harris, despite being part of the Biden administration, was seen by some as being more sympathetic to the pro-Palestinian cause and made a forceful case for a cease-fire deal after meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netantyahu.

“We all came to a consensus that it’s not going to make a difference, that [Harris] represents this administration,” said Hatem Abudayyeh, chair of the U.S. Palestinian Community Network. “We’re going to stay full steam ahead.”

Harris may also face sporadic protests inside the arena where she will make her televised acceptance speech on Thursday. About 30 delegates who represent the “uncommitted” vote in the primary which activists used as a means of protesting Biden’s policies on Israel will attend.

right… lets erode Harris support, because her opponent is so much more sympathetic to Palestine’s tragedy. This now looks more like protests for the sake of protests rather then desire for change. In present political situation they need Harris to win first and then protest/coerse/plead/etc for policy changes. Calling her Killer Harris will only strengthen the opponent and all will be lost for Palestine. Protests need to target strictly current president and policies to deliniate the pressing needs and who can deliver on them

      Logic in protests? Lol

Especially with this gaza situation where the public isn’t actually educated on the geopolitical situation (Iran proxy war) that’s causing it.

This looks like a protest for the sake of stopping Genocide. Which Kamala has promised to take part in by not placing an embargo on israel if she gets elected.

Nobody is calling her Killer Harris.

      They call her Holocaust Harris.

so they protest. Some dems don’t vote “in protest”. POTUS45 gets elected again… problem solved?

sounds like very few share that opinion: https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/08/21/dnc-gaza-protests-small-ineffective-kamala-harris/ which confirms my assumption that this particular protest is very far off target as it clearly is working against stated goals.

I’ll repeat: people should not die. This needs to be delivered to the present government structures capable of carrying out relevant decisions. Protesting in front of single party convention does nothing to achieve that goal and may work against achieving it. GOP quite effectively held up aid for Ukraine with Dems willing to change and that had enough Republicans willing to aid Ukraine, with Gaza situation is even worse: Republicans mostly opposed to aid of any sort while *some Dems are for it. Protesting/denouncing Democratic party does not help the cause one little bit. Name calling will shut off prospects of compromise. This is escalation for the sake of escalation at this point.

Do any of these protestors honestly believe Palestineans will fare the same or better with trump in office?

Either they do and are thus too dumb to be worth listening to or they don’t care about the people they profess to defend.

    Edit: fixed a homonym.

No. They believe that Harris is more likely to be swayed than Trump is.

Exactly. Why don’t they protest at republican rallies? If anything, they are turning Democrats against them.

Thank you for framing this the way I think it.

It’s not pro-Israel or pro-Hamas (to me). It’s anti-genocide and anti our weapons being used for it.

That said, if we end up with Trump, then the purity test will have significant backlash.

Why isn’t she giving into their Demands you ask, I ask how? She can call for the Senate to vote on different funding/embargo deals. But this is delusional if we are now saying the Vice President can override the President and issue new while breaking old contracts signed by Congress to another country.

“If you don’t do what we say, you’re the one throwing away the election!”

        It’s a pretty childish view.

“Stop aiding a genocide or we’ll allow the party that would speed up said genocide to win” is not an adult view.

Think about it a different way. Many Republicans feel any abortion is murder (so from their perspective, weare killing thousands of babies every month.) If they started protesting trump saying he’d better ban abortion or they’ll allow Harris to win (despite the fact that she seems determined to protect the right to abortion) would that be an adult rational decision? Or would it be the same childish petulance?

“Why did you do that?” said Kamala Frog to the US PCN Scorpion. “Now we will both drown.”

‘we could not help ourselves. It is our nature.’

Good. Someone needs to keep them honest. (Or as close to it as you can in American politics)

I’m under no illusions. Citizens United means all this is PR. All politicians will go back to ignoring us and counting their filthy lucre Nov 6. But if principled people can get concessions out of these fakes then godspeed to them.

You’re confusing, as usual, the leadership of the US with the leadership of Israel.

Harris is NOT “the VP of a Genocide”, the closest would be Yariv Levin, the Deputy Prime Minister behind Benjamin Netanyahu, though naturally it’s more complicated than that:

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yariv_Levin

It really looks like Israel is kind of a cluster fuck at this level:

      https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deputy_of_the_Prime_Minister_of_Israel

Besides the Prime Minister (Bibi) they have an Acting Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister, Vice Prime Minister and Alternate Prime Minister.

In the event Bibi is incapacitated, both the Acting Prime Minister and Alternate Prime Minister take over, while the Deputy Prime Minister is purely honorary, as is “Vice Prime Minister”.

      BUT:

Of those 4 roles, 3/4 are currently vacant. Meaning the Deputy Prime Minister is the only one capable of filling the role.

Acting Prime Minister - vacated 31 March 2009
Alternate Prime Minister - vacated 8 November 2022
Vice Prime Minister - vacated 24 January 2023

No, 76 years worth of US support totalling $310 billion dollars is why Israel is able to commit Genocide and other atrocities.

Biden’s donation to the cause is just the most recent and miniscule.

It’s not orders. Israel has had $300 billion dollars worth of aid and weapons over the last 75 years. They don’t need Biden.
