How YouTube links instead of articles ruined social media - By Me

10 minutes of waffling and filler then one minutes-worth of info buried in there somewhere

Don’t forget to like and subscribe

Can’t stand this YouTube Voice anymore, I used to watch legal eagle and this future proof dude, but honestly the YouTube voice is so grating. Just talk normally!!

Old Netflix when it was DVDs by mail was actually really neat and had a variety of movies. They dropped lots of movies when it went to streaming-only and further enshitified from there.

I have a browser extension for that. When I open a page and a ‘subscribe’ popup hides the text, I click on that button, and it shows me the URL it’s going to block, and I click OK. The next time I get tricked into going to that page, it tells me it’s blocked.

Our boss paid for our department’s Netflix accounts (4K plans, 8 people on 2 account). I feel bad because I barely ever touched it since I have Stremio. It never has the thing I wanted to watch and all their new shows is garbage that guarantees to get cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons.

the internet was ruined the moment it went mainstream.

as soon as it ceased to be that cool thing for nerds, ruled by passions and interests, and went mainstream with targeted content and profiteering, it lost its magic.

and everything since then have just been increasing horrific layers on the shit cake.

Kinda works for everything, IMO, but perhaps that’s the hipster in me.

Pfsense and pfblockerng. You will need at least 16gb of ram if you want to block porn otherwise it will run on a potato. When you crank it up it honestly blocks too much in my opinion. AD’s are just the beginning.

Why on youtube? 😓 It’s like driving a hummer with bumper stickers saying you hate big oil.

Ah, just run things through a pi-hole, run sponsorblock, and it’s only costing youtube for you to watch it. I enjoy costing them.

Lol at using the word “just” in your sentence, that can be out of reach for many users here.

Alternatively for less techy people. Just install grayjay: https://grayjay.app/

Tubular and Freetube are two other options. Tubular is a fork of NewPipe with sponsorblock and such added.

Just wanted to add some options for those that may not like GrayJay for whatever reason.

Have you been able to get pi-hole to block Google ads? Mine always fails to update that blocklist.

I’ll be honest, my kid got pissed at any ads coming through so he updated the blocklists. No ads come through. Here’s the list of what is running:

I should have added a little warning. Having all those blocklists active does break a fair amount of the internet, but it’s worth it for me.
