I would sooner be flogged than make a phone call. Back when I was whole of body, I’d walk several miles, no exaggeration, to reschedule appointments in person rather than make a phone call. Fuck phones.

What does ADHD have to do with avoidance?

That’s so accurate! And when you finally give in, you dial the number and hang up because you forgot all words and what’s even the topic.

I like when they pick up and talk to you like a you’re a crazy person for asking whatever you’re asking.

Oh good. I’m not the only one that has to dial twice!

I see so many jokes like this, but I’m the exact opposite. For semi formal things like contacting service providers, taxes, sales and the like I prefer to wait for 30 minutes on a phone call to writing a 5 minute email.

I get really paralized in writing something that doesn’t sound casual, so I prefer to have a phone call where it’s not expected that I’ll speak as formally as the email I’d have to send to get the same task done.

One important thing to note here is that in my native language casual and formal written language have a bigger difference compared to English.

Our entire system shouldn’t be built around only phone calls, there needs to be realistic alternatives. Not everyone is comfortable calling and that’s ok

Plus I prefer to have things in writing so I don’t forget a small detail, or if someone fucks up and I can point out exactly what I told them needed to be done.

Unless it’s an emergency or you’re trying to contact a company/government entity that will stonewall you with template emails otherwise I think this is fine because if someone just calls me on the phone I’d hate it and I don’t want to inflict that on others

One of the effects of me getting medicated is being able to make phone calls and schedule meetings. Do I still hate that everyone would rather I call and stumble over my words and forget what I’m going to say rather than let me write an email that allows me to clearly and concisely ask my questions? Yes, fuck them for doing that. Hell, it’s stupid and inefficient to try and find times your schedules are both open to have a meeting when you could just write a fucking email and reply to it when your schedule allows. But yeah, anyway, now I actually have enough executive function to make those phone calls and meetings when I have to.

Also here’s a reminder to take your meds because I definitely would have forgotten to take mine if I hadn’t seen this post and remembered.

I will say or agree to pretty much anything to end a call as soon as possible; my awareness of that makes me refuse calls at any time. Fuck phone calls.

I feel like I’m being so fucking rude when I call because I hate receiving phone calls. They feel like someone intruding in my private space every single time.

I have to prepare a little note card with bullet points on what I want to say/accomplish on my call. Bonus because I can also take any notes on the call if needed. It’s helped me a lot, because a lot of my anxiety about calling comes from forgetting why I was calling in the first place.

Call, but don’t leave a voicemail. Just text them or email.

Although I have ADHD, I do prefer making a phone call, when I need something urgently. Especially if I deal with a company or a service provider e.g. party location/dj/photographer for our wedding party or whatever. I’m always anxious that they don’t read or answer my message in time
