I installed a screen protector for the first time on Monday. I’ve been having issues getting my fingerprint to work and just would use my pin to unlock. This morning Android popped up a notification saying “Using a screen protector? Click here to increase touch sensitivity!” Pretty awesome.

Now stop asking me to use Gemini.

I noticed the other day that my phone had a “glove mode” option in the display settings which seems to have that same effect. Notification didn’t pop up, but it was a nice feature to find in the settings. My fingertips are really callused, and it definitely made the touches more responsive.

TBH, I hate when software “suggests” things to me, even if once in a while it is relevant/useful.

Oh, Clippy. Lol, if only. 😆

“Suggestion” has been co-opted lately to basically mean “ad” so I’m particularly salty about those nowadays.

That said, if the “suggestion” was something like this, I would at least have a laugh:

The Simpsons - The Fingers You Have Used to Dial Are Too Fat

Funny story: That used to be the outgoing message on my voicemail. People hated it.

Friendly reminder if you’re in the U.S., you always want to use a PIN or password to unlock your phone. Law enforcement needs a warrant. If you use your finger print, Iris, face… they do NOT need a warrant.

If ever you could also use the lockdown mode, once enabled you just hold the power button and it gives you the option to turn off biometrics and lockscreen notifications

Legit question: for the average person, why would this matter? Like congrats copper, you can see my text messages to my mom, and my receipts in my email, and my pictures of my pets. If someone’s actually doing crime, then a password should be the least of their security measures.

I can think of a couple situations, one being if you live in a place where abortion is illegal and you’re talking to someone else/someone who knows someone who wants to get one. Doesn’t matter if you did nothing illegal but now you’ve likely gotten them in hot water. Another is if you’ve loaded a website that hosted something illegal unintentionally, now you have to explain why that’s in your cache/history/whatever (lemmy had a big problem with CSAM being spammed on some instances). Innocent people get put on trial/sent to prison for weak evidence, and your phone is an immense amount of information for the cops to look through and see if they can make anything fit.

Imagine suddenly driving up to a police DUI check point. You’ve only had one glass of wine with dinner. But, you posted about it on IG, FB, X … or, whatever. You want the risk of letting the cops have easy access to your phone? No way!

Pixel 9? If so, what screen protector did you go with?

Just got one and the screen protector I bought doesn’t work with the new style fingerprint sensor, so looking for a known-working brand

      Pixel 8.

Cnarery 2+2 Pack Privacy Screen Protector for Google Pixel 8, Privacy Tempered Glass Screen Protector and Camera Lens Protector [Easy Installation]

It struggled a little but I did add new fingerprints which helped.

Thanks for the info! Just struggling to find a suitable tempered glass protector now since the pixel 9s moved to the ultrasonic style fingerprint reader.

I regret this screen protector drives me crazy. It works for my thumb print only some of the time. It could be user error but I think I’m giving up on it. I hope I didn’t lead you down a failed path.

Been using my Samsung a70 for almost 3 years and I knew re touch sensitivity only lately. I don’t want scratches on my screen so I’ve always wanted a tempered-glass protector. I’m on my 3rd tempered glass.
