I think it’s fantastic that Republicans are putting so much of their time and energy into this issue that only their rabid base cares about. It’s like Benghazi all over again.

They’re setting themselves up to lose the next election because they have made this their central issue.

Do you think swing voters give even half a shit about this? Of course not.

Unfortunately, Hillary took the bait. So far, Biden has done a decent job of ignoring the bullshit and staying on track.

Hillary played it perfectly. She cooperated fully with the investigation and came out looking clean as whistle.

See, this is the mistake Democrats made then, and are still making now, and you don’t even see it.

It’s not about proving she did anything wrong. It’s about controlling the narrative, and tagging the candidate with a vaguely foreign-sounding city where something bad happened to American heroes. Conservative success is measured in the number of times she felt the need to talk about Benghazi.

You think Hillary played it perfectly, because you followed the testimony and the reports and looked at the evidence that cleared her of any wrongdoing. But voters in Michigan and Ohio heard “Hillary Benghazi failure death.”

She didn’t do anything wrong, but she allowed it to be a distraction from the campaign. She spent time arguing with republicans like a bull chasing rodeo clowns. She was knocked off message too much, and she put too much faith in reasonable Americans to make a responsible choice.

If she had played it perfectly, we wouldn’t even associate her name with the attack. American voters are stupid, and it’s time Democrats stopped pretending they’re not.

Edit to add, this is something I think Biden is doing well. He’s standing by his son, but not addressing any of the nonsense directly. Biden’s message could be a bit clearer, but the current theme is that he’s in charge and he’s doing well. The economy is recovering, our international influence is strong, and he’s ready to continue fighting for Americans against morons and malarkey. I hope he continues to hone his message, and wins another four years, because I honestly couldn’t take another four years of Trump or Desantis.

I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. Hillary never raised the issue if Benghazi voluntary at all. She was investigated by Congress, and instead of making it an issue by refusing to cooperate, she defused it by testifying for hours and hours.

Right, my mistake, Hillary won in 2016 and President Trump never happened.

You know the saying about wrestling with a pig? You get muddy and the pig likes it. Associating Hillary with Benghazi made it easier to tag her with the emails, and although 90% of voters couldn’t tell you what emails or find Benghazi on a map, that’s two scandals for Clinton. That’s a trend, almost. Do we really want four years of Clinton scandals? Hillary Benghazi death failure scandal emails cuckold weak corrupt sad vagina swamp. It’s like a demented word cloud for disinterested voters, and Democrats are still confused about how it happened.

It happened because Hillary trust the voters to pay attention. She sat for the committee and answered every one of their questions with poise and tenacity, and all the voters saw was Hillary at a table in front of Congress looking weak. The Democrats released a full report clearing Hillary of all wrongdoing in the attack, but who trusts what a politician says? All politicians are liars, and at least with Trump you know he’s a slimy liar going into it. Of course she never raised the scandals voluntarily, but the amount of time she spent defending against them shows how weak and not in control she was during the campaign. She wasn’t on trial, she was fighting for the position of leader of the free world. What she can prove doesn’t matter even a little.

Hillary failed in many ways during the 2016 election. The Democrats around her failed in many ways. Democrats have been making the same mistakes for 40+ years, and the pattern is so predictable that Trump was able to exploit it and run the country for four years. I’m hoping that we don’t see it happen again.

Hillary’s campaign in general was a train wreck, which is why she lost.

But it had nothing to do with Benghazi.

2016 got me reading a lot about the Availability Heuristic and Availability Cascades. It looks like a novelty until you’re watching the truth be rewritten in front of you by people who keep talking about Her Emails, who can’t tell you what’s wrong with them but who believe it’s chock full of corruption because lots of other people keep talking about corruption when they talk about them.

It’s astounding how many of the Bernie Sanders supporters at the time would bet their dominant arm that there was real evidence of corruption in her emails without ever being able to identify a single instance of it. Not to knock them but just to say I think a lot of them didn’t realize that the manufactured availability cascade was straight up mind control and despite how paranoid a lot of them were at the time very few of them figured out that they were being puppeted.

Whoa… Strong disagree. This was not about Bernie supporters.

Bernie let her off the hook entirely with this as a primaries issue with his line “I’m tired of hearing about her damned emails.”

He made it a non-issue in the debates, and the primaries were focused on POLICY.

AND let’s just have one second to acknowledge that while Hillary didn’t do very much wrong regarding the emails, she wasn’t completely without fault. She was certainly NEGLIGENT in keeping sensitive government communications secured.

The problem was that she couldn’t simply admit to that and move on with a slap on the wrist.

              Why?

Because the law was VERY clear that conviction for NEGLIGENCE ALONE was enough to bar her from HOLDING OFFICE.

It was an overly broad law with no room for nuance.

Even when James Comey came out and “exonerated” her, the substance of his press conference was EXACTLY him describing how her behavior has all the elements of NEGLIGENCE. He even used a synonym for gross negligence, without ever saying the actual words. Then he muddied the waters by concluding this speech about negligence with a declaration that there would be no charges because she had no INTENT to commit a crime.

What he didn’t mention was that a charge of NEGLIGENCE does not have ANYTHING TO DO WITH INTENT.

As an attorney watching that play out, I was utterly fascinated that he wasn’t called out for such a naked dodge.

Anyway… I wanted Bernie, but voted for Hillary in the end, and I didn’t really care about her emails. But I’m absolutely certain she was guilty of the overly broad law governing negligence. I also understand why it would have been insane to charge her for it. No one wanted to derail a political giant over a technicality.

Thanks for proving my point. None of the information on Hillary’s email server was classified.

Because the law was VERY clear that conviction for NEGLIGENCE ALONE was enough to bar her from HOLDING OFFICE.

You can’t be grossly negligent in handling something that was retroactively classified after you handled it. This is an absurd proposition.

This is exactly the kind of stuff people were saying in 2015. Hillary did nothing wrong. Even Bernie admitted it, but it didn’t make a difference to folks like you, you took the bait, and it encouraged a lot of people to stay home or vote for the fascist.

I’m sorry. You’re just flat wrong.

According to the FBI’s investigation, a small number of the emails that were sent or received through Clinton’s private server were classified at the time they were sent or received.

Republicans say the information is significant

I mean… they would. This whole investigation is insignificant, especially when no one is investigating Jared Kushner’s relationship with the Saudis.

Called an FD-1023 form, it involves claims a confidential informant made in 2020 about Hunter Biden’s alleged business dealings when he served on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Top Republicans have acknowledged they cannot confirm whether the information is true.

This is all political theater. The document is just a complaint form they filled out. It contains no evidence, just accusations. Of course, I expect no less from the Fascist party, it’s right out of their playbook.
