They tried to replace him one time and the fans lost their shit, leading to a reversal. I remember the outrage, apparently he wasn’t even contacted for the role in Hitman Absolution and had no idea he wouldn’t be voicing it until the trailer came out for it with a different voice actor.
Fans tweeted at him asking why he wouldn’t be doing the voice this time around and he was just like “I have no idea guys, nobody has spoken to me about it at all.”
It’s funny, because up until that point, I thought his performance was wholly replaceable; in the first game, I’d call it outright bad. It wasn’t until Absolution that I felt like I saw him really acting for the first time.
Is it the same guy? Or do they just keep cloning and reprinting him?
I hate recasting characters, replacing narrators in the middle of an audiobook series, etc. It’s super jarring, and it feels bad even if the replacement does a really good job.
There have been cases where it’s been for the better, cases where someone died and there’s no way around it, etc, and cases where I still kind of wish they didn’t do it, but it works OK. But there should be an extremely strong preference to avoid doing so unless there’s actually no alternative.
