Another week in the books. Let’s chat about manga in the general discussion thread! Feel free to use this thread for questions, comments, recommendations, etc.
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).
Picked up
Magical Girl Dandelion - Only one chapter realeased; looks like your typical heroine MC + villain love interest; shall follow and see how it goes
What Does the Poisonous Butterfly Dream of? - Oddly sexual; gives off Darling in the Franxx vibes
Insect Girl - Shall see how it goes
I Don’t Know Which Is Love - Yuri love polygon!! Liking the premise, but putting it on hold until
I Don't Know Which Is Love spoiler
there’s some progress, because MC is just leading her love interests on, which is not nice
My Goddess Spurs Me On - cute yuri stories; I like
Hammer Gramps - Basically Mashle but MC is old and wields a hammer; it’s more funny though
Completed
That One Classmate Makes Me Question My Own Masculinity - Lacks a proper ending IMO
How To Love: A Secret That Cannot Be Told - The unnecessary drama makes me dislike the characters towards the end
Ubunchu! (except the last chapter) - I just want to say that this lady is a heretic, and not qualified to be the president of the computer science club
Dropped
Isekai Samurai - Basically if Thorkell (from Vinland Saga) is a girl, is a samurai instead of a viking, and got transferred to a fantasy world; a score of 9.17 is overrated IMO; it’s not bad, but the MC is just a brainless battle junkie and the other characters are braindead, so don’t really see the appeal
I mean, she probably uses Arch for production servers. Shudders
Being a Linux sysadmin for the past 25+ years: RHEL or Debian on servers. Arch on clients, particularly if you don’t like your users. If you hate them, Gentoo always does the trick. 🤣
I’ll stop bringing IT on here, I swear!
I’ll stop bringing IT on here, I swear!
I don’t work in IT, but have enjoyed the IT-adjacent series E, Shanai System Subete Wan’ope shiteiru Watashi wo Kaiko desu ka? if you haven’t seen it before.
Also, I am not a very adventurous linux user despite using it for ~20 years as I have almost exclusively used Ubuntu (and its derivatives) that whole time. The bot for the anime community, rikka, is running on a VPS using Ubuntu 22.04. My desktop linux machines are running Pop!_OS (one is from System76 directly).
That is a good one, I have it in my library.
About Ubuntu, the real problem for me is Canonical. While I appreciate their work for the community, I have very mixed feelings about them and their practices.
That One Classmate Makes Me Question My Own Masculinity
Agree that this one feels unfinished (also, I didn’t realize it was left-right until the second chapter). However, it was all worth it for this panel which got a good laugh out of me:
Glad you liked Ubunchu!
I am back from vacation, but not fully back really, because I got sick basically as soon as I got back. I have been able to do some catching up on the backlog though and even checked out some new series. Some notes:
I perused this series a bit and ended up dropping it. The whole time I was reading it I kept waiting for the thing that would make this story different. It never came… I feel like I read this series before because it seems to follow a very generic and predictable path.
I checked out the first couple chapters of this series while waiting to board a flight, so I am only 3 chapters in. However, I don’t think I am going to continue it. It feels a bit original though in its combination of setting with supernatural elements. I could be persuaded to continue this.
This is a quick oneshot that I liked, but felt that it didn’t really do much. I came out of it wondering what the point of the story was.
This series has been great. It’s premise and title make it seem awfully generic and contrived, but the execution has been great. The most recent chapter simultaneously beautifully ended an arc and set up a crazy hook so that I cannot wait for more. I have enjoyed this series way, way more than I thought I would when I started.
I came out of it wondering what the point of the story was.
It definitely made me hungry.
