My goal for the summer was to finish my PhD. I defended on Friday and am now Dr. Drail, so I actually accomplished my summer task for once. I sacrificed all my sleep and sanity to do so, as I was told at the 11th hour to redo a major analysis that made up 1/4 of my dissertation, but I fucking got it done.

stop making goals for the summer. in fact, stop making goals period

“goals” is annual “strategic plan” bullshit and should not be any part of your life that you’re not getting paid for

now that “goals” are in the toilet where they belong, make your own plans for your life instead of goals. plans can be changed, can have backup plans, and don’t have to meet your employer’s bullshit rubric for success. if your plans don’t necessarily include staying where you are, then they don’t.

      fuck goals

It happens in industry, too, but often it’s even the stakeholders’ fault :) I’ve still got so many reports to write…

I had so much extra shit going on, I didn’t really have a summer, besides staying up later than usual and waking up later than usual. Same work, different sleep schedule. And I still feel like I got nothing done.
