It should be noted somewhere on the login screen, maybe with an asterisk, that beehaw.org is not fully federated, restricted, however it needs to be termed.

Since account creation does not happen in the app, but requires visiting the instance’s home page, where registration requirements, federation status and other peculiarities are plainly visible, I don’t think this belongs in the app.

Yeah. I feel like a lot of instances must have at least one other instance blocked. A tech focused instance for example might not want to federate with a political alt right instance. An asterisk wouldn’t mean much

No one is ever “fully federated”. Even Lemmy.world most likely blocks some spam/nafarious instances. It would be tough to define what fully federated would mean.

I think the better approach would be a message telling you when you’re trying to engage with an instance that isn’t federated to you.

Scroll down to the full list. The BI column is how many other instances that instance is blocking. BB is how many instances that instance is blocked by.

Beehaw is currently blocking 387 other instances. Lemmy.world is blocking 1 tiny instance for some reason. Beehaw is blocked by none. Lemmy.world is blocked by 2.

They’re defederating with instances left and right. And pushing for mod tools for the communities hosted on the instance but for users from other instances. They seem more interested in sculpting a walled garden with the illusion of agreeableness.

They have defederated from 387 instances so far. As the 2nd or 3rd largest server, they just cut off all of their users from the bulk of everyone else.

I unsubscribed from everything beehive and will focus my energy on a group that believes in what lemmy is.

Yeah, and they seem to no longer be accepting new registrations. For the past two days their count has been at 36,185.

POST-CAFFEINATED EDIT: that’s lemmy.ml that seems to be locked, beehaw gained about 1,000 (lemmy.world added more than 7,000 during the same time.)

    Current counts from: https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list
