First post, let’s get started with some recent extreme horror/splatterpunk standouts:
Tampa - Alissa Nutting. May not have the gore of other extreme horror titles, but has graphic detail of taboo & borderline violent sex-acts in spades.
Grandpappy - Patrick C. Harrison. A teen boy is assigned to care for his ailing, bedridden grandfather. Rivals A. Beauregard’s ‘The Slob’ in terms of making the reader feel a sense of claustrophobic disgust.
Housebroken - The Behrg. A family is terrorised in their home by an assailant. Not the most GRAPHIC story but surprisingly gripping.
Exoskeleton - Shane Stadler. Now this was a good’un! Protag is given a choice between a 25-year prison term or one year inside an experimental exoskeleton that controls his body. The medical procedures were extremely graphic and cringe-inducing. The sequels switch genres to a slightly more spy-conspiracy thriller slant, but I highly recommend checking-out the first book.
I enjoyed listening to Reality Bleed on Audible during my night shifts. It’s pretty much the Doom origin story and can get very macabre and grisly at times.
Thanks for your comment. I recently listened to a few of the Alien audiobooks and Reality Bleed sounds like a good chaser. Downloading the first season now.
