I’m committed to not skipping any episodes in this watch-through of Voyager. Which has already paid off because Initiations is usually an episode I skip, and I’ve skipped it so many times I completely forgot Aron Eisenberg was in it.

At least I’ve got a few more seasons to prepare myself for Tsunkatse.

It absolutely has its silly charm. The Rock gets his shining moment as a heel with requisite body slam and eyebrow raise, Seven has a training montage with not-Martok, and Combs does Combs things. Everything else in the episode is filler.

One does not prepare for Tsunkatse. One only endures it.

They somehow made a meta episode about enduring pain that requires enduring pain.

Ah, see, I did skip it this run through because “Akoocheemoya”. Maybe I’ll double back for it.

Funny story: I didn’t get the “Akoocheemoya” reference for the longest time since those were episodes I always skipped. I love Chakotay as an ensemble character, but I’m not a fan of most episodes that he tries to carry. And then later learning that the show’s Native American consultant was a fraud just made those episodes unwatchable.

Oh no I’m going to pretend I didn’t read that. The fraud part.

Nailed it. I did, however, buckle down and watch s5e18 “The Fight”. Mostly because it has Boothby and the vision questing includes roles for the other cast.

Beltran’s wooden performance works great when Chakotay is the friendly / disappointed dad-type authority figure (that’s a weird way to phrase a compliment, but you know what I mean lol). Outside of that, it just doesn’t work for me when the episode takes him away from the main cast.

Though I did like his performance with Janeway when they were left on that planet together.

I forgot about “The Fight”. That one is going to be a struggle lol. I don’t think I’ve watched it in its entirety since it originally aired.
