Team Asobi studio head Nicolas Doucet hinted that the development team had eyed up a Cloud cameo that never got approval from Square Enix. “It’s difficult to comment on that,” Doucet said. “We really respect the choice of each publisher.”
Square Enix got greedy with the licensing fee and Sony said fuck it.
There’s no evidence for that, only speculation. It could be a number of other things, worse or otherwise.
Not surprising. I think people forgot how sparse the original Cloud DLC for Smash Bros was when compared to the other fighter DLCs.
I wonder if this is related to the comments Square Enix made about PlayStation exclusivity with respect to the last FFVII remake entry. Maybe they’re going to distance themselves from being so strongly associated with the PlayStation brand due to what they perceived as underperformance.
It’s one possibility. I’m not sure we’ll know for a while but it’s certainly interesting that ASOBI approached them to bring Final Fantasy in.
Wasn’t cloud in the last one? If not him, I definitely remember seeing the sword. I haven’t played the new one yet, so I don’t know how many were reused in both.
The Buster Sword was, but no characters or any other references.
I was thinking it’s because Square wanted them to be DLC content so they can take a bigger cut from the price of the DLC. I believe the reason why they got more reps in smash ultimate in DLC was from Sora bargaining with them so they could have a full base roster at the start.
